weird heating problem?

ok this might sound really weird. i've been having this weird thing happen sometimes when i drive. mostly happens being stopped, or at nite (that part i cant figure out) .. but basically, the thermostat shows the heat of the engine going above normal, sometimes right before the red zone, and then goes back down.. it changes pretty fast sometimes.. but it's weird.. i recently got my thermostat, water pump, fan belts, and timing belts all replaced - thinking it might be one of those things - but the problem still seems to be there. i also recetnly just reflushed my radiator too. it seems really ahppen that it really only happens at night when i'm driving too. barely ever happens in the day. yea totally got me . any ideas? or should i just try to have it checked out at the shop again -

i don't know why it would be happening at night when you're driving. but the climbing temps at a stop... make sure you have enough coolant in your radiator and also check for any leaks in your hoses/radiator.

Yup... Louie knows all about that one.
Check for leaks and make sure the hose from the rad isnt doubled up and blocked in anyway.

It could be several things. Take it back and get it checked.

Whatever you do, DON'T drive it hot. It doesn't take much to ruin your motor.

I would suspect a pressure leak, thermostat or thermo switch.

With the work thats been done, it seems likely that they may have done something to cause the problem.

yah i gonna take it back. just to clear things up though - that problem did happen before i got the work done at all.. the mechanic couldnt really diagnose the problem there because of course, at the shop, we left the car on for like 30 mins and temps stayed normal.

coolant is not low at all. might be a pressure leak somewhere too.

the weird thing i dont get is how it can heat up and cool so fast - like sometimes when the temp increases, it drops back down just as fast.

hrm yea i'll get it checked out again.
