weird engine sounds

A couple weeks ago I noticed a strange metallic tapping sound coming from my engine. I got a valve adjustment hoping it would solve it but it didn't. The tapping is most pronounced above 2k rpm but under 4k rpm, above that I know it is still going on but with the wind and the roar of the intake it's not as obvious. At idle there is no tapping sound. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Me too.
I have that sound also.
It use to not happen, but it started one day after I raced an Eclipse.
Redlined through the gears and afterwards, I started to hear the noise.
Then I went to a gas station and checked my oil. OOPS running low.
Guess thats what caused it. I refilled the oil to normal levels but the noise was still there. I went to have a mechanic check it out (head mechanic dude at Honda over here) and he said its just the engine running noisey. Happens to older engines with miles on it. He said not to worry about it. He said he couldnt pin point what it is exactly with out a tear down.

Oh well, I would like to know whats causing this and if its anything serious. Or if its happering performance at all.

I did a little research on hp.com and it seems that the sound might have something to do with the bearings on the crank but I'm still not sure. Performance wise my engine is running fine

Hm... crank bearings? That's probably not a great thing to have go wrong. Guess I'll have to replace those when I tear it apart.. whenever that may be.

I also get a "tinny" sound around 2500-3000 rpm.. but then at 3000, it's gone. I think it's just the exhaust resonating at that certain RPM.. that's what it sounds like at least.

If anyone gets anymore info on that other noise.. post it up.

i have the same thing. all the time at all rpms but an inconsistent pattern of tapping. just gets louder.

doubtable to be the crank bearings. i'd like to hear where that assumption came from?? i was thinking more along the lines of widened valve guides. its definitely in the head, at least for my motor.

the head is coming off in a couple months anyways so i'll use that opportunity to replace guides, seals, etc.
