The car is a 93 si 4ws with H22 swap. Yesterday on the way to work the speedo and tach start bouncing all over the place. Next, the 4ws light comes on and the 4ws control unit starts clicking like it does when I first start the car. My cd player turns off and the ABS light comes on. The dash gets real dim and I could hardly tell the headlights where on. I looked at it last night but couldn't find anything wrong. I threw another alternator I had in there and its still doing the same thing. Everything works until I put a load on the electrical system. I can drive the car fine without headlights, but as soon as I turn them on all this starts. If I have the headlights off it will do it with the turn signal and brake lights on. At this point I'm thinking it could be a ground somewhere but really have no idea. I've never cut any of the wiring harnesses and the only electronics I've added are the pioneer cd player and JL subs and amp. The subs and amp have been disconnected since last weekend. Any ideas? I've searched but found nothing exactly like this.
Just got the alternator tested at autozone, its bad. Going to pull the other one off tonight and get it tested. This may just be a bad alternator problem.

good glad you got it fixed sucks the alt and the batt went bad at the same time.
i was gona put my money on a bad ground. you dont have to cut or disconect anything for a bad ground. the oem grounds a crap not very thick and about 3 inches or exposed wire usualy. they can coroud and break very easy.
sorry if this is not completed correctly just joined. I have a 94 si with a S motor. just purchased after market side mirrows that have leds in the sides that can be used as turn indicators. Tapped into the correct wires under the dash for the left and right signal but when the ground at the door is connected it quits blinking and stays on no blink? should the ground be connected some other place? if so please direct me. again sorry if I did this incorrect I'm trying thanks K.l.
the problem is that the wires inside the car only supply a positive current (or whatever they do) to tell the blinker relay to blink them. The wires inside the car dont tell the blinkers to blink. Wire up the LEDs to your blinker in the bumper. That should work. The only thing is, you run the risk of pulling too much current through the wires - which shouldnt be an issue since they are LEDs
im having the same problem in my 92si - although my battery and alternator tested good.
we've checked everything we can think of so far, but i noticed a "clicking" sound in the trunk area when we'd hook the negative cable back up. the load on the batt would drop from 11.8 to around 6, but then it would slowly rise back up to the 11s.
i'll write up the problem in a sep post.. i was hoping this one was going to be the same prob!

Sounds like your problem is there.
