Weird Car Stalling Problem

I have a 92 si with a jdm h22a swapped in.

I replaced the guages with EL guages about 2 years ago. I replaced my main relay about 8 months ago.

The other week I started my car and the clock blinked out a few times randomly. I thought nothing of it, but 2 miles down the street while I was turning left at an intersection the car just died. I restarted it, came on for a second, and then died again. Repeated that about 10 times until I inched my way through the intersection. The weird thing is that when it died, the entire guage cluster went out, but I still had accessory power (a/c, radio, etc).

At first I thought it was my alarm because it was almost like a fuel cut off, so I unplugged it and got home just fine, but I don't see how a fuel cut off could affect the guages.

I left my alarm unplugged and the car worked fine for the next couple weeks, then every once in a while when I go to start it for the first time after sitting for a while, I get the same engine dying / guage cluster going out thing. The starting system sounds fine and it starts right up every single time, but it just immediately dies.

It hasn't died on me again while driving it, but the clock blinks off and on randomly sometimes which starts to freak me out. The one thing I found is that when shifting into Reverse while the car is started, I can generally get the clock to blink on and off or the guages to dim, which makes me think it's an electrical problem as the reverse lights come on, but I can't see how the engine dying is related.

I wanted to get any PO opinions on where to start looking or troubleshooting before I end up taking it into a shop and paying an arm and a leg to chase down electrical gremlins.

Doesn't sound like the main relay to me. What kind of alarm is it? Sounds like the ignition wires are coming loose or something.

Hey guys I am having the same problem here. I installed an alarm myself and I have reason to believe that I may have a loose wire as well. Also, my brake lamp fuse keeps blowing and I can't figure out why! It sounds like I have a short somewhere and it's really annoying. Has anyone figured out where the problem lies?

you have a similar problem in behavior of symptom, however, the circuit in question in completely different. Might want to start your own thread, rather than jack 92h22a's thread. All I'll say is disconnect your brake switch wire and observe any changes in your symptom.

To 92h22a, I'd check any illumination wire connections (assuming aftermarket radio), as they would be directly associated with your dash lighting. Other than that, make sure all your ground points are good. Yes, I know, there are a whole lot of them, but it's cheaper for you to do that than a shop. Your problem is quite as isolated, so it's hard to diagnose w/o being there. (hell, it'd still be hard to diagnose in person ) GL

Hey sorry about that, I didn't mean to jack 92h22a's thread! I found the problem with the break lamp fuse blowing but still haven't figured out the reverse light blinking. I'll check my ignition wires! Thanks!
