Weights of A/C

I have wondering about how much all the A/C stuff weighs when it does not have any freeon in it. All the hoses, compressor and so on. Basically everything I would be able to remove.

i think the compressor itself weighs close to 20 lbs or so...

then u got the blower, lines, evaporator, radiator, controls, etc.

im guessing close to 100 lbs

Im not sure whether or not I should remove the A/C. I woudl love to keep it, but I have no freeon and a big leak so it is not worthwhile fixing, and doesnt blow cold. The real question si how difficult it will be to remove, and reinstall in a year or two when I want to sell the car.

So we are thinking somewhere around 100 lbs for everything?

yeah, maybe the A/C from a 69' GTO weighs a hundred pounds. Not us. A/C has gotten lighter over the years; brackets, everything. It's around 30-35, trust me. A guy on this board weighed the crap. So how do we go about removing it?

30 pounds of weight reduction will do pretty much jack. It'll make the car about .05 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile. I woudn't even bother with it. Not only would you have to worry about pulling all that stuff out, you'd have to get another belt to drive the alternator. The alternator belt goes around the A/C pulley too.

i havent removed the compressor yet but all the lines and the condenser in the engine bay weigh about 11 pounds... im guessing the compressor weighs 20 or so pounds... thats all i would remove because i live in ohio and i need the heat in the winter so the blower unit has to stay... so if you want to keep the blower id say you'd loose between 30-35lbs... possibly 40lbs if you pull out the blower
