hey people, i hope some one around here can help me out with a small problem. i get a small puddle of water in the trunk of my car, its on the right side in the spare tire well. there is no sign of where the water comes from and none of the carpeted panels are wet, there just this little puddle in that corner.
i already have replaced the rear window molding... what should i check next?
My trunk has also been getting wet, and it has been splashing around and soaking my passenger rear seat bottom wet. I found a plug that was on the right side that was out, so I plugged it back. Im waiting to see if this had anything to do with it, but I don't think so since my whole spare tire well gets filled up with water, leaking from the right side.

I had the same issue in my 5th. I couldnt find the exact source (sometimes comes from your roof drains) so I just popped out the little plugs by the spare, and any fluid just drains right out. No more problems

I think there was a post here about someone with a 4th gen and water problems. I can't remember the solution though. =/
However, on my 5th gen, the sunroof drain tubes were clogged. They exit out under the rear quarterpanels. When I cleared them, a bunch of water came out...it had just been sitting there. It's possible your drain tubes are clogged too, spilling out the water in the trunk.

Check this first, easy to figure out, easy fix. If you pull out the carpeted trunk liners they are in between the outside body panel and the inner one, where the antenna is mounted. Make sure they arent clogged or havent come totally disconnected. Then (since you've already replaced the rear seal) check the trunk seal and adjust as stated above.
- trunk seal
- missing body plugs
- rotted taillight gaskets
- rotted vent gaskets (behind trim below/in front of tallights on rear quarter panel behind bumper skin)
- insufficient bonding of rear quarter/bulkhead around taillight area
I've had to fix all these items on my 5g. No more leaks. The taillight gaskets are available from Honda, the vent gaskets are not (need to buy a whole new vent). Removing and reinstalling with similar-to-OEM bulk weatherstripping from Home Depot should work... or generous amounts of silicone.
Recently got a 5G Prelude used from a family member who didn't use it very often. First thing I noticed was a mold smell inside and 2 inches of water in the wheel well. The back seat was also wet.
I took the side trunk liners out and tried water down the car to find the problem but couldn't find it. After a hard rain, I checked the trunk and found water in the corner where the jack is stored and the opposite side as well.
I think that it first collects there then obviously into the wheel well. If enough water collects there, it can slosh around during driving and collect under the back seat.
I traced the problem back to the tail light gaskets. There was water on the lip of the holes where the wires go to the tail light and after I took the tail lights off I noticed that the gaskets where wet on the bottom.
Those tail lights get exposed to a lot of water when it rains and the only thing that keeps water from getting inside are those gaskets. They are thin to begin with and the material is prone to shrinkage over time.
I haven't tried a fix yet since I just found the problem 10 minutes ago but I'm planning to find some gasket material from an auto parts or hardware store and cut it to fit.

You can get replacement gaskets from Honda pretty cheap. I just did this to my 5th gen 2 weeks ago.
