How long do you guys warm up your cars???? a min, two min, or until the temperature gauge jumps to one gap.... or any of you that doesn't warm up at all............ i warm min up for about a min and then let it roll on the street trying not to get above 3 thousand RPMs until it's fully warmed.........
i let my car warm up till the idle gets down to like 1200 then i take off without going over 3000 till it warms up to 2 notches on our ghetto temp. guage.

I usually wait untill it drops back to a normal idle rev and then drive, but I don't think it's really necessary as long as you don't rev more than say 3k to 3,5k.
If you have an oil temp gauge, you could check when the oil reaches 80 degrees and than you can go flat
I tend to let mine warm up 1 to 2 mins in the summer and 5 to 7 in the winter and I still keep the rpms pretty low for awile. I dont want to hurt my baby.
I heard that warming a car up, or letting idle for a minute or more is bad, in terms of leaving carbon buildup (more than one would normally get from driving around). Can anybody back this up? I've read numerous peoples replies in past threads about this.

I read that on one of these boards, I recall. I think it's good news that we don't have to warm up. I think it's a holdover from carb'd engines, and you don't have to warm up injected engines. I do give it a few seconds for the oil to circulate though.
I wait about three seconds before I redline it out of the driveway
JDM H22s are only about £500 over here and there are plenty of them too, so I'm not too worried about killing it.

Now that's what I'm talking about...

so when I come over for my hame & cheese omellete, I can grab a few engines too.
I like to let it idle for a while before driving off, 'cos I want my pride & joy to last for as long as possible.
I don't like sitting in the car doing nothing. I usually get in, turn on my stereo, adjust heating controls, wipe sunglasses, turn on mobile, check who the last caller was and then maybe call someone or send a text message.
I like to be a bit quicker when someone else is with me 'cos they will probably think that I am weird.
During the cold winter, I have more to do. I get out and remove the moisture/condensation or frost/ice from the windows. Then I go through what I have stated above.
When I do eventually drive off, I take it very east until the engine has warmed up.
I also try not to switch off the engine immediately after stopping.
Let your car idle for about a minute or so after you drive it hard. This gives the oil time to circulate back down into the oil pan. If you kill the engine right away, the oil trapped in the valve area MAY become sludge. This is more common on turbo cars. I only let it sit after driving it HARD then comming to a stop. If you drive normally, you shouldn't really worry about it. Also, synthetic oil would give you a piece of mind in this case.
