Want To Rebuild My Motor, But Afraid It Is Too Much For Me To Handle

My motor needs rebuilding due to overboosting so I figure I can do this junk my self with the Chilton book. That thing tells you exactly how to do the work.. the only thing is I am unsure if I am getting in over my head. I work in a dealership selling parts so I know a good deal about mechanics of an engine, but I do not have the experience of building engines. Does any one want to tell me whet to expect or advise? thanks

Well, first of all. Take that Chiltons book and set it on fire. It is the worst manual you can get for yours or any car. If you are even going to consider rebuilding your engine you must get a Helm's manual. Got to www.helminc.com and order it for your year. The manual is specific to your year, make, and model and it three times as thick.

As for rebuilding, you will need some specialty tools and a few Honda parts.

yeah, the only thing a chilton manual is good for is the basic of the basic information. i have one myself, and i find myself borrowing a helms manual from other people when i need to do work on my car.

as far as rebuilding goes, everything will need to be put back together perfectly as well as to the correct tq. specs otherwise the engine will be more messed up than it was before.

good luck with this.

if you want.. i can show you pictures of my re-build from step one... to final product

it's goign to end up costing you more then buying a used engine.. prob 2 or maybe even 3 times more

my aim is tenzola

it's a lot of work and you are goign to have a lot of downtime

also.. unless you have all the machining equiptment.. you goign to add to the cost dramatically

whats needs to be rebuilt due to overboosting?

Pistons? block lining... more then likely you just need to hone the block, or do some overboring, and replace the pistons and new rings... wont' be THAT expensive, and most of the work will be done by a machine shop..

somewhat off topic. do they make overbore H23 pistons?

and what is the bore type call for the H series motors again? crosshatch or something?
