Vtec Warmup????

Got my SI to VTEC conversion done. Took it for a quick ride and when to VTEC and when I was supposed to hit it, it was like hitting redline. I said, what the f@ck. Hy shop told me that my temperature guage has to show warmed up, meaning my engine temp guage has to be to the middle(4th gen). I let it warm up and to my suprise he was right. Is this how it is on all 4th gens. It never crossed my mind. He has an S2000 and he says it is a big pig until it is warmed up. Then get out of his way. I'm just wondering if it is like that for all you guys.

Please, please, please, let your car warm up before driving it hard. Your engine will last a lot longer.I usually dont go over 3K RPM until the engine is at normal operating temp, then for about 1-2 minutes after that, I dont go over 5K just to make sure the oil is up to optimal temp (I have no guages to tell when that is, which is why I wait). Once I feel its warm enough, then I get on it.

there is a certain temp that your oil has to be at for vtec to kick in. so people like you cant go revving their engine to 7.5k after they start it up after a cold night. lol...jk man

Sorry guys, I guess I'm not that smart. Like I said, I had no clue how the whole VTEC thing worked.

According to my shop manual,

VTEC will not engage unless:

Your going 12mph+
Coolant temp = 140F+
Oil PSI = 57psi+
RPM's = 4800+

All these things have to happen before VTEC will engage.
