vtec not working?

ok i don't have any CEL or anything but i drove my friends accord today with h22a4 swap

when it hits vtec at 5000rpm the rpm just JUMPS like nuts after that

but for my car i can hear vtec kick in but the rpm is going up the same as when its not in vtec
its like it only makes sounds and no power?
wtf?

1 - reset the ecu
2 - sound could be a "think" thing
3 - it wont go up past 6.5k rpm without vtec

Check the Oil level. Vtec relies on oil pressure and it there's not enough oil, it'll redline @ 65k or it will not kick in at all.

ok well i never remember ever having my vtec kick in like that before ever since i had the car over a year ago
sooo
i reset the ecu
i do regular oil changes
the sound sounds like vtec for sure
but the rpm is just not what i felt on that accord
=/
when it hit 5...it was already at 8 in less the a second
i was surprised and i had to shift right away again
