VIN Number Breakdown

Hello,
I thought this was pretty interesting. It's basically what all the parts of your VIN number mean.

Here is a sample VIN Number:

JHMBB21500C199999

JHM - The Make - Honda Motor Co. Japan
BB2 - Model Code (BB1, BB2, BB3)
1 - Transmission (1=MTM, 2=ATM)
5 - Engine:
4 = 2.0 PGMFI 16v OHC (F20A4)
5 = 2.3 PGMFI 16v DOHC (H23A2)
7 = 2.2 PGMFI 16v DOHC (H22A2)
8 = 2.2 PGMFI VTEC 16v DOHC (H22A2)

00 - Fixed Code (mine is PC instead of 00)

C - Factory (Saitama, Japan)

1 - Year Manufactured
BB1 Model
0 = 1993
1 = 1994
2 = 1995
3 = 1996
BB2/3 Models
0 = 1992
1 = 1993
2 = 1994
3 = 1995
4 = 1996

BA8 is the chassis code for the s trim level.

well, according to that, mine "is" a 93, but the VIN says it's a 92.....and it also says it has a F20A in it....odd

isnt this writeup in the FAQ? even if its pretty cool to be able to decode vins so you can see who is rice when you park next to a "Prelude Type R" you can find out what they really have going on in there
