valves rattling - Honda Prelude Forum

how do i adjust my valves? it seems everytime i get on it i can hear them rattling, my oil is fine and it doesn't need changing. i'm afraid that if i don't hurry and do this that something bad is going to happen. any help is appreciated!!, thanks

what thickness of oil are you using?, honestly mine did the same till after an oil change... i mean they didnt do it, then i changed the oil and it started acting like that, then i had it changed again and it stoped it again

I believe the valve adjustment is in the Helms. Basically you have to move each cylinder to TDC and check the valve clearance with a feeler gauge. Then tighten to desired tolerance. Takes time, but our cars need it approx. every 40k to 60k miles. Less if you drive like I do.

make sure the engine is completely cool when you adjust them. If you can't let the car sit for several hours, you can pull the car in the garage, or whatever, raise the hood, place a large window fan facing at an angle down on the top of the engine and let it run, but you'll still have to let it sit until it's cold.
