valve seals?

Hey so sometimes my car smokes upon startup and then goes away quickly. does this mean i have a problem with my intake valve stem seals? its not very much smoke, but it bothers me a little. Also, does this do any damage to my
engine? and if it does, then how much it is to get the valve seals replaced? Thanks.
