valve job?

So i need to change my valve stem seals because my car is smoking on start up, and its annoying. So i was wondering if you guys think i can do it myself. I'm mechanically inclined and everything, but opening up the engine semi-scares me. I found a write up of how to do this on a b18 here How-To Install Valvesprings & Valve Seals - Team Integra

do you think it will be similar enough for me to follow?
should i take off the whole head to do it?
or maybe you guys think i should just take it to a shop.

tell me what you guys think, it will help alot. Thanks

That write-up is good, the one I used too. You don't need to remove the head.

Use this type of valvespring compressor. It works exceptionally well.

Definitely use the valve seal remover tool. I wish I had..really.

If you don't already have the helms, download it from here. www.spoonhonda.com Follow all the instructions for torque values and sequence for the cam cap bolts. Apply Hondabond where they tell you to. Etc etc. Replace the water pump and timing belt if you're due, since you'll be right there.

Put a little vasoline on the inside of the keepers when you reinstall them. That'll let them stick to the valve stem when you have the springs compressed.

It was the first major internal work I did too. Use the valve seal remover tool, and be systematic and meticulous.
