USDM H22 wth H23 tranny vs H22/H22 tranny

Just wanted to give my impressions on this debate since I just ran my car at the track this weekend with the H22/H23 tranny. Last year I had a H22/H22 tranny combo and I really noticed a difference in the gearing. With the H22 tranny, I was able to hit 4th gear a couple of seconds before the finish line, but with the H23 tranny, I barely hit 4th gear at all.

The numbers are a little disappointing to. Last year, my best run was 15.38@91MPH. Mods were CAI, pullies, running on stock 15" with balding kumho's. Saturday's best was a 15.63@91MHP. Mods were CAI, pullies, carbon fiber hood, Fidanza lightened flywheel, new OEM clutch, and new tires on the stockies. I feel like I'm back at square one now. We'll see if next time I can improve my driving and make up some time back.

On a good note, I was able to trap a new high for myself at 93MPH. Nothing special, but whatever.....

ya i have the H23 tranny with USDM H22... The only vtec lude ive driven is a 5th gen, but i definetly dont like falling out of VTEC in 2nd and 3rd. Maybe we should get VTEC controllers? maybe turn them down to 4800 RPM? I dont have as many mods as you (motor has high miles, want it to last!) but i'd like to stay updated with u on any improvements we can make

I'm just a bit curious, why get a CF hood before header and exhaust if you're going for a good ET? Does it really shave that much weight off the car? Are you running with the spare in the trunk?

I definately recommend a vafc, that part helps out a ton, but don't just get one and drop the vtec point, get it tuned properly and you won't be dissapointed, I have the h23 tranny as well and have no issues.

DanBreaksLude:

Well the main reason why I got a CF hood was because last year I rear ended somebody and dented up my hood. So I really wanted to replace that. I am planning on getting the whole header back upgrade this summer though. Just not really sure what components yet. I ran with my spare tire in. I was feeling really lazy that day....

Maybe I will get a V-AFC. That's cheaper than trying to find another M2F4.

Tuning is definitely a must, but I'm not gonna really worry about it till I do more to the car.

I'll see how the next runs turn out when I go back for the Sport Compact day next month.

Thanks for the input though.
