URGENT: JDM Folding mirror install, help needed!

Ok, lemme quickly say that our PO FAQ for Folding mirrors is useless, it's a thread discussing what the real relay looks like, and nothing more.

On to my problem:

the Integra walkthrough doesn't help, and Evan (crazy93...)'s walkthrough is a little sketchy when it comes to wiring:

I have 6 wires on my JDM L and R mirrors:

2 browns
1 yellow
1 blue
1 white
1 black

I have 3 wires on my USDM harness for the Left (driver's side) mirror:

Blue/orange
yellow/blue
yellow/green

I have 3 wires on my USDM harness for the Right (driver's side) mirror:

blue/green
blue/black
green/blue

Here is my question: which wires from the JDM mirrors mate with which wires from the USDM harness on their respective sides?

EDIT:

(JDM mirror wire --> USDM harness wire)

JDM LEFT (Driver's Side) Mirror:
Brown #1 -> Yellow/Blue
Brown #2 -> Yellow/Blue (same wire that Brown #1 connects to)
Yellow -> Yellow green
Blue -> Blue/Orange
White
Black

JDM RIGHT (Pass. side) Mirror:
Brown #1 -> Green/Blue
Brown #2 -> Green/Blue (same wire that Brown #1 connects to)
Yellow -> Blue/Black
Blue -> Blue/Orange
White
Black

if possible, a wiring diagram would help a lot. I've searched already, and there was a post with a link to one, but that link is dead (go figure). The Integra walkthrough doesn't work because the wires on the JDM mirrors are all different colors, and it isn't as helpful because their relay has fewer wires than our JDM relays.

On a side note, to those of you who installed them, how in the world did you route your wiring from the doors into the cabin? I had no idea how to try and squeeze the wires through the covered/insulated harness wrap.

Thank you.

truthfull i dont' have the time to check, but i believe, on the JDM mirror side, the three wires group together, are the corrosponding mirror adjustment, and the other two, are fold and close option, just tap a 12 volt sourse, i did a lot of guess and check with mine.

Ok, I've found an anwser to part of my problem, and I've edited my first post to show it, I still need to figure out a good way of passing the wires through from the door to the cabin, because I tried to use a coat hanger and pass it through the wire harness, but it takes two near-90 degree bends as it goes up into the cabin, no dice.

I also need to figure out a good 12V source to tap for the fold function, anyone? Thx.

jdm mirrors

man to get the wires through the rubber gromets I took a impact rubber mallet and removed the pin from the door hinge that will allow the door to open up mucho more. I then used black magic heavy silicone and sprayed it on the rubber gromets stops and the wire I was passing through the doors to slick it up. You will have to remove the door speaker to free up some space so you can remove the rubber stoppers they are wrapped in electrical tape so be careful. I then used a wire cutter and cut a 10 inch wire from a coat hanger to make a wire puller after you have worked with the silicone on the rubber gromets and have pulled the pieces apart you can feed the lines through the lower rubber stopper up through the wire tube but be very very vareful you do not want to tear wires or rip the weather boot. I used the coat hanger wire puller I made to pull the 5 wires through the door seals. I had a much easier time doing the drivers side verses the passengers side but take you time and do not work against yourself... that is the key.. I WOULD TRY TO FIND THE JDM PRELUDE RELAY THE INTEGRA ONE WILL WORK BUT IT IS THE WRONG RELAY AND IS A PAIN TO TRY TO FIQURE OUT -- you can get one off of ebay for 35 bucks I did..

I have the Prelude relay, I wasn't even going to mess with that Integra one.

About the door thing, I'l try that tomorrow, my only problem is my brother insisted it wasn't going to work that way, and the only way to do it was put a hole through the rubber boot and run the wire external of the harness but tape it to it when done. I wished he hadn't, I have a hole now, and I'd like to do it clean like you did. Anyone know a way to patch up a small hole on rubber? I'd use electric tape, but I don't want any moisture getting through, and it's on the boot, so i can't really wrap it with tape either.

Ok, thanks selude, I managed to use a rubber mallet and pound out that pin, it was tought getting it out the last bit, so I grabbed a hammer and gave it a "tap", it popped right out. Getting it will be a blast I'm sure.

Phew! That's all I can say, it took me nearly an hour of pulling out, pushing in, and stuff my finger as far as I could through the rubber grommet on the passenger door side of the harness pass through, trying to feel the coat hanger I was using to guide my wire through. I managed to get 2 twisty-twirlied 18 gauge wires through, I figure when I need to get more, I can just tape them to the wire and pull it through.

I'll get the relay wired up tomorrow, I'm just trying to decide whether I should mount it on the passenger door or somewhere in the center console, basically whatever makes wiring easier.

If anyone knows of a good constant 12V to tap to power the folding function, post here, I was thinking of the headlight switch, but I don't know that will be sufficient power or not.

i wonder you know those rubber grommet can pop out of the door and from the door jam right? cause that what i did, i bent the grommet to be as straight as possible, spayed some windex (yes that was the only substance i had that was slipper) and also some simple green hehe....
and push the coat hanger thought.

lol hien, simple green?

Yeah, I think I may try to straighten that loom as much as possible, it was a pain trying to slide the coathanger 90 degrees at the bottom bend, or trying to bend it from outside the loom, feeling with my fingers the whole way.

As for the power source, what did you tap for the fold function? And where did you ground?

i tapped into the radio constant 12V for the relay, works perfect. Hien the reason it won't work when the key is out is because the power wire for the switch would need to be constant as well. but they aren't supposed to fold when the key is out anyway. For ground i used the same one as the switch ground. but of course any ground will do.
Good luck Adam!

thanks Humberto. Are you sure they weren't meant to work when the car wasn't in ACC or ON? With Trident's help, I found a few locations in the underhood fuse box that i can tap from, such as DT Running lights, but I'm trying to figure out how many amps these mirrors will draw for folding, and I don't really feel like doing trial and error and blowing different amp fuses to find out. The mirror adjustment fuse draws 15 amps, so at least 15 is what i'm thinking.

if they reset every time you turn off the car.... then they are not hooked up to 12V constant.... which they need to be... otherwise the gear will pop if they are trying to open, when they're already open... samething with closing ..... putting the relay to a true 12v constant will never allow them to reset therefore the gear never pops. If they're popping.. you'll hear alil motor running noise followed by a pop.

**You don't have to use a JDM Switch 'HARNESS' for the JDM switch.
Just add ONE wire to your OEM switch Harness [which is the last empty spot (pin hole) on the OEM switch harness] that will lead to the Relay. This is the wire that sends the signal from the button to the relay... telling it to open or close. This small & easy step = No cutting & soldering for the JDM Switch.**

**Either way you still have to run the Blk & Wht wire from both mirrors to the relay.
Instead of cutting your OEM door harness (that leads to the mirrors) & replacing (cutting/soldering) it with the JDM door harness...... Just replace the JDM mirror harness (that comes directly from the JDM mirror) with the OEM mirror harnesses (by removing the pins/wires) Which makes it a Plug & Play.... then run the Blk & Wht wires to the relay.... this small & easy step Also = No cutting & Soldering for the OEM/JDM harnesses for the mirrors or door.**

ceasar, know any good 12V constants? I thought the green/red i was tapping from the cabin fuse box was the constant for DTRL, but it wasn't the right wire, so mine only work in standby/on, and yeah, from time to time they do pop.

^^^ yea he's right... first make sure you have the reight relay.... it's a black small box with 2 ear holes .. one on each side..... & it has a GREEN PLUG HARNESS not blue.

The color wires that 'The Pilk' listed above is 14 wires... so I think he's listing then wrong... somehow.
