upgrade ***NOOB***

i bought a 94 prelude s a year ago, and have eversince been on a search for a VTEC lude. I found one tonight, but now i dont know where to get parts for it. where do you find all the parts for them, all the internet sites that i have found only carry some of what i want. is there a site that carrys everything, or am i better off finding them at a local shop. also, i need a good site for wheels and tires.

another question
i test drove the VTEC tonight, and am probally getting it tomorrow. it only has 1 mechanical problem as far as i could tell.....that being it wont go into 2nd some times. he said it was becuase there was slack in the shift linkage....is this true?

When you're asking about where to get parts for the car, are you talking about aftermarket parts or OEM replacement parts? Aftermarket parts can be found anywhere, but most people usually stick to groupbuys around different car forums or online retailers. There are hundreds of online stores out there, but be careful when choosing who you're buying from. Buying from a local shop is fine too, but they usually charge more than online sites.

If the shifter won't go to 2nd gear, it could be the shift linkage or another part of the transmission like the syncromesh. Does it grind or won't budge at all? If I were you, I'd take the car your mechanic or a referal and have them do an inspection. Tell the seller that you're serious about buying the car and you'll pay for the inspection fee and compensate for his time (i.e. cash, food, etc).

yea, aftermarket, i can find OEM fine..... it wont budge at all for a little bit, so i take it out and put it back in and it goes in fine, no grinding whatsoever, my lude now grinds into 3rd and i know thats the syncro

question is, why do you want the VTEC? is it just because of the engine? if so, you might be able to save some money and get a JDM H22 instead of buying another car, the selling yours (assuming you still have it).

and what the guy is telling you is most likely correct. either way, you need to get it checked out before you buy it.

So did you pass on the VTEC or did you purchase it?

im taking it to a shop monday because nothing is opening today. i want this car instead of swaping mine, because the price is close to a swap anyways, and this already has an H22A JDM swaped into it. i was an A1 and swapped at 145k on the chassis, all paperwork shows the motor had 52k on it, now is has 58k. im going to try to set it up for roadcourseing.

by roadcoureing, do you mean road racing? or auto-xing? if its for road racing i would highly advise steering clear of the prelude as its heavy and underpowerd... ie. not a very good platform to set up for road racing. but thats just my opinion.

road racing, i know its not the best, but i would rather set it up for that then drag because that is what i do, i race my dads car right now, and will continue too, but would like to have a car that would fair well on the track if i cant drive his car/i go somewhere without him

im not planning on tracking it that much, but nice suspention and brake set up would be nice

EF or EG civic hatch, FC rx7, mx-5 miata, 240sx s13... all those are much better platforms for road racing than the prelude, and they're cheaper too.

not trying to talk you out of getting the lude, but just letting you know that there are better options out there for a road race car.

yea, i was thinking maybe an EG hatch, but i like preludes. i would much rather drive a lude then a hatch, and like i said, it would just be tracked a few times a year, but i would like the have the option there

would it be more worth my money to buy the VTEC lude with a few goodies, or swap a JDM H22a into mine?

your best bet would be to swap. especially if the VTEC car you're looking at has problems (i just had to replace my shift linkage last year and it cost me ~$650). but get it all checked out then come back and let us know, that way we can better gauge whats going on.

not sure on cost, but its a full tranny rebuild...

whoever told you its very hard to do a h22 swap is a moron... there is a writeup here on PO:

Ultimate H22a Swap FAQ

it will tell you everything that needs to be replaced/swapped from the old wiring harness. overall, pretty damn easy to do.

i still don't understand how you had a hard time finding parts.....because h22 or vtec parts are the most proliferate out there, because most ppl want h22 parts or the best prelude parts

its much harder to find parts for h23s and f22........i dunno where you are looking buddy but all the top names only make parts for the h22 and nothing else

all i look for is H22 parts, cause thats the only motor really worth modding in my opinion of those 3. i find lots of h23 parts, and im not at all interested in f22 parts, which is why im trying to get rid of the car/motor. i just cant find a good site that carries everything for the car, i just find bits and pieces everywhere

you won't find a site that carries everything (unless you're willing to pay an arm and a leg). most all sites will carry a few things, and you just gotta hope that those few things are different from the other sites

i dunno if i missed it, but how much is this guy asking for it?

on another note... true the 4th gens are fat heavy beeches and they aren't all that great for street racing right out of the factory...but hey, compared to a kit of cars in its years... it has quite the technology and the interior is just awesome for a honda imo =] i'd take its comfort over an s13 or ef/ek/eg anyday (assuming you are getting the leather interior and such) not to mention, some people overlook that the seats in them are designed by sparco iirc.
