UK Import Cruise Control question

Hi Folks - question about cruise control on a 1992 UK 2.2 VTEC import.

Cruise control works most of the time, but only works between 40mph and 60mph. As I do a fair bit of dual carriageway and motorway driving where the limit is 70mph, I'd like to know if there is an upper limit on UK imports which restricts the cruise control to a max of 60mph?

If so, is there a way of increasing the upper limit?

If not, then can anyone offer some possible solutions as to why mine does not work above 60mph (vaccum tube leaks?).

Many thanks in advance - take care and have a good (safe ) weekend.

Cheers,

Dobbs.

Because it's a jap import, the cruise is restricted along with the top speed. I believe the actual limit is 68mph (110km/h)

You may have also noticed that when you get to 112mph (or 180km/h) the engine cuts out, this happens on all imports unless you chip them or fit a speedo convertor correctly.

The only way to override the cruise is to splice the wire from your speedo convertor (if you have one) and run a second wire to the cruise control module that is just above the accelerator pedal (silver box with 'cruise' written on it), it is the orange wire with a silver stripe.

You can also override your top speed limit by running another wire to your ECU, but you will lose vtec in first gear.

Import Cruise Control solution.

My thanks to Preludestan for the info - very much appreciated.

I do have a conversion chip, but it's not fitted due to the speedo being in mph while the trip is in kmh, but I'll fit the chip at the weekend and wire into the cruise control as suggested.

Thanks again,

Dobbs.

wow i didn't know that. very interesting. but i'm pretty sure with my jdm ecu, i cruised at 80mph on a road trip. maybe because i have a usdm car with a swapped h22a. interesting.

No worries Dobbs, just something us UK guys have to sort out when a lot of us drive imports (It's quite annoying how the japs have to limit everything!)

The convertor doesn't remove the limit, but it changes the cruise limit from 110km/h to a theoretical 110mph, and the same is true of your ECU, the new top speed limit will be 180mph rather than 180km/h, due to the way the convertor slows down the speed signal pulse.

Pop over to www.preludeuk.co.uk since you're from the UK, I'm sure we can help out with a lot of JDM related queries!
