Awesome Charlie, love the steering wheel! Are there controls for crusie control on the wheel or do you have to get rid of that feature? Even if you do, it is worth the tradeoff.

I guess if you are still putting money into your car, then you decided to keep it right..............

I got this for 450 shipping. Its hard to find, youll have to go to the s2k boards and see if anyone is selling theirs. They go for around 800 bucks at honda.

I'm with you on the car payment thing. That's why I can't justify getting rid of mine. No payment + a nice car = (happy Mark)

Thanks for the offer on the hosting. It was just a tiny pic so I'll take it out. Thanks again for the offer though!

I love the feel of the S2K steering wheel. Especially when driving one. You will be the first 4th gen owner I know of that has it done. You are going to be a trend setter when it is complete.

charlie,

is the wheel going to be easy to install on the 4th gen? I'm curious. It still has the airbag and everything right? How much did you pay for it and where did you get it?, if you don't mind me asking. Thats definitly a project I would like to do in a few months if I ever get the money

cool mods man, i like both of them...450 is pretty steep for a wheel, but its looks great AND you get to keep the airbag, good call man

I know a couple of Bay Area cats have done this in 4th and 5th gens, but it's something I've always wanted to do. Put some pics up when you get the wheel in.

Peace,
J

$450 doesn't sound too bad to me. From what people have told me about airbags, they alone are fairly expensive. A friends dad is a manager at a Honda dealership and he said that one morning when opening up shop they saw a whole row of cars with their driver side doors open. As they looked in the cars they noticed someone had stolen the airbags. When they got to the end of the row there was someones legs hanging out of the car. The theif had a whole bag full of stolen airbags. He was knocked unconscious by a bag going off in his face while taking it out.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for an s2000 steering wheel, or maybe an NSX wheel?!

... serves him well. Robbing a Honda dealership ... must have been on his last leg in the crack game. Poor sucker ... must suck to be a worthless piece of sh!t.

umm guys...this convertion doesnt work...

Todd can you explain exactly why? Im still a little confused myself. Could we have installed the steering wheel WITHOUT the airbag? or cruise control?

Apperently guys, they 4th gen hub is WAAAY different than the 5th gen. If Todd can explain...maybe even post pics.

If it was different, why did the s2k wheel slide into the prong?

Sorry to **** on everyone's parade.

First, the background: I originally imported a hub adapter for aftermarket wheels for the 5th gen a while back. For whatever reason I was under the impression that all airbag-equipped Preludes were the same hub... and that the non-airbag ones (I think '92 was the only 4th gen year) were different. It turns out it's not so.

ALL 4TH GENS APPEAR TO HAVE A SMALLER SHAFT DIAMETER. This means that 5th gen hub adapters and wheels just won't work. Since the S2k has the same hub size as the 5th gen... it won't work.

To top it off, the 4th gen uses some funky copper flex-ribbon cables inside the wheel for the cruise and SRS connectors. The SRS actually has the same connector (so a newer airbag would connect, electrically) but the cruise does not. Since it is a flex circuit it would be almost hopeless to try and solder to it, and the connector isn't anywhere close to the 5th gen or S2k ones.

Basically, it's hopeless. 4th gen owners have to get a different hub adapter (I hear a Civic one works) to use an aftermarket wheel. The s2k one won't work and it would take some serious cutting and welding to make it work. So much so it's just not worth it. You would almost inevitably have to lose the cruise control.

To top it off, I don't think the holes for the cable reel lined up. It might have worked, but it wasn't worth messing with!
