TSB 00-090 or Rear "Shock Knock" Question

Okay, I am going to probably be annoying many of you out there with this question, but after an hour and a half of searching and digging up old threads, I feel that I must. My 96 VTEC suffers from what seems to be commonly referred to as "shock knock". In fact, my 95 Si had the same issue.

Anyway after dealing with shock knock on two different Preludes for over five years, I have finally decided that I would like that annoying sound to go away.

After doing some research, I came across TSB 00-090, which if I understand correctly calls for replacement shock collars that are a few millimeters shorter than the stock collars.

My questions are the following:

1. Is this TSB applicable to my 1996 Prelude, and if so
2. should I buy 52728-S30-004?
3. How difficult is it to change the shock collar, i.e. can it be done with the car sitting on the ground in the parking lot of my apartment complex?
4. Should I go ahead and replace the bushings seeing as the car is almost 14 years old?

I appreciate the help. I have some free time, and am finally getting back into my Prelude. If I remember correctly on my 95 Si I tried someone's fix of adding washers to the top of the shock towers to mixed results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I ordered the replacement part 52728-S30-004 today for the TSB 00-090. I hope it works...

I put the replacement collars in today, and it made a big difference. I spent about half an hour driving over speed bumps and other uneven sections of pavement, and couldn't get the rear end to knock.

Overall it only took about 40 minutes or so to change the collars, and most of that was removing and reinstalling the panels in the trunk. If anyone is interested, there is a pretty good writeup on the Super Honda forum.
