Transmissions dead, looking for options...

Well guys and gals, the transmission on my Prelude died this weekend. She was an auto, so it's not the GREATEST loss, it's just a lot of money to spend that i don't ACTUALLY HAVE! But i was wondering if anyone knew of any trustworthy shops in the chicagoland area that can perform a manual swap... thanks guys...

you know.. there is a chicagoland prelude club

www.chicagolandpreludeclub.com

but to answer your question.. are you really willing to spend that kind of money to do the swap.. you're almost better off just dropping a jdm auto trans into your lude.. sell that.. and buy a lude that is manual

to really answer your question.. there's one6, speedquest just to name a few... if you want back alley mechanic work with no warentee.. you can find that on the cpc site

it could be a lot cheaper.. just gotta find the auto trans.. it doesn't even have to be a jdm one.. just a used trans off another member could work

search here and honda-tech and you'll find something.. i remember finding auto trans for my si around the 200-250 mark

and yes.. if you do it your self.. it'll cut down the cost dramatically

the manual swap is very involving unless you find a wrecked 4th gen 5spd that's willing to give you ever line, hose, linkage that comes with doing the swap

i'm just saying that you can run into a lot of little headaches...

alrighty, after thinking it over, i think you guys are right, i should just buy another lude with a manual in it. I will still keep this one as a daily driver though, but i guess i'll start saving up for another prelude after i pay this one off in august. Thanks for the thoughts guys...
I didn't realize it would be this hard to do wish it was just plug and play...

wait.. you can still drive the lude... you should be greatfull for that... hehehe

what's up with the trans? does it not up shift when you leave it in drive?

i had a problem where i needed to shift the gears myself.. it was a solenoid but by the time i fix that and a leak in the case.. i figured it was cheaper to source out a used trans

if you don't mind the auto.. just keep searching for a used auto trans and if you're in no rush... you should be able to find a geat deal
