Transmission problem!! stranded

My reverse quit working and I have searched but I can't figure out why, I havent experienced any problems previously.. I have never had any grinds..

I left friday evening and reverse worked fine.. then that night it wouldnt.. only thing i had was a short shifter, which i took off and it made no difference..

is it the same problem with my tranny that is so common? weird because mine wasnt progressive at all, it just happened out of nowhere..

can i do it myself? its the 5th + reverse synchro pack right?

argh.

yeah, this is a common problem. Honda issued a bulliten on this problem. You do need the 5th + reverse synchro pack, and if you have the Helms manual, it shouldn't be a problem to put in. It happened to me too. Depending on where you are in VA, I can help you if you want. Good luck.

I live just outside of Roanoke, VA, so not TO far away..

If you could help me out I would REALLY appreciate it, since you have already done it before we could probably get it done pretty quick..

How much is the 5th + reverse synchro pack? where would you recommend me to get it from? Looks like this is what my paycheck is going to!

Well, reverse has an indirect synchro. When you put the car in reverse, the all the forward gears on the mainshaft need to be disengaged. This is accomplished by having a "dummy" gear that just spins (there is no real gear). This gear is dummy is engaged when you go in reverse. This is the the synchro that needs to be replaced in order to get into reverse.
