Transmission doesn't like to shift into 1st...

Ok, so i i had my lude for a while. For a long time ive been dealing with the car not wanting to shift into 1st, when i slowly glide towards a red light, i can stick it into 1st gear when i am almost totally at a dead stop. now it is getting worse. It does the same prblem for 1st gear, but 1st 3rd and 5th are now feeling a little on the spongy side when i shift it into those gears. Any ideas on what i need to do? you think its the synchronizers in the transmisson? i have an h23....if you think its better just to get a "NEW" transmission...what do you think would be the best one to get....for performance.

Crap, i also forgot to mention....if im at a dead stop. The only way to get it into 1st WITHOUT grinding i have to put it into 2nd and rapidly switch it into
1st.

Have you checked your clutch?

Classic signs of incomplete disengagement of the clutch.
I would first check the pedal adjustment to ensure it hasn't loosened up.
Then bleed the system.
If it's still grinding, I'd replace / rebuild the slave cylinder and lastly the master cylinder could be rebuilt or replaced.

Good luck, let us know your results.

Alright, replaced both the CSC and the CMC....it is just as bad if not worse than it was haha....what you think now? the clutch itself or the syncros? It is very difficult to shift into any gear...once i start going it shifts pretty nice tho.

Its your shift cable. Replace the cable that controls the up/down motion and it'll go away.
