Tranny going out, want to do swap

Well I just got my car back today from the shop and they said the tranny is going out (auto) ...It will be like 1500 + to fix, so what im wondering if it would be cheaper to just go ahead and do a swap. I already have the h23 5speed tranny that I paid 250.00 for, now what Im wondering is what else would I need to do this swap correctly and also if anyone has done this how much did it cost, or a approx. ball park figure. If its going to be cheaper to do the swap than getting the tranny fixed Im just going to go ahead and do that. If I go ahead and do the swap should I just go ahead and put in a better clutch and lightened fly wheel or hold off. I have a heavy foot so I know the stock clutch probably wont last so what kind of good clutches are out there, or lightened fly wheels. Thanx for your help.

Turbo4lude thanx for the list that will help out alot, also it says you live in ohio, where at in ohio? I live in columbus, so I was wondering what shop you went to do get this done. 800.00 in labor dont sound that bad at all. Also later down the road if I want to do a h22 swap can I use the same tranny or have to get another one?

yeah its expensive, Ive looked into it and even collected some of the parts but I think for the money I will just send off my Torque Convertor and perhaps do some other things to my tranny.

I'm near Cleveland, my work is being done at Tuner M in New Jersy, he does good work there. IF you swap to an H22 you can keep the H23, no major mods, the h23 tranny has better gearing anyways...

If you use an h23 tranny with an h22, you Will drop out of VTEC on every shift. They h23 tranny has longering gearing, better for top speed, but bad for acceleration.

You will drop out of VTEC if you dont know how to drive your car. I have an S tranny (a hell of a lot longer geared than the SI tranny) and can stay in VTEC in all gears...no joke.

You just have to know how to drive your car. 1st gear I shift at 40-43mph, by the time I hit 2nd, Im at 5200rpm or 47-48mph (where VTEC kicks in with the S tranny). I can bring 2nd gear to 75mph (7600rpm), shift to 3rd and VTEC is right there....

The SI and VTEC tranny are very close in gearing. Just take a look at the ratios on both trannies, and then look at the S, and you will see what Im talking about.

Know what you are talking about before you offer information...
