Tranny Fluid Question

Hey guys

I have a 1993 Honda Prelude SI (Automatic)

Was just wondering what type of tranny fluid IS THE BEST..not good, not "its ok" lol but i need to know the best

I unno if its normal but the car shifts fine..but its not like a rough shift , but on the other hand it isnt smooth ...(basically you can feel it when it shifts) Is this normal? I figure putting in some good tranny fluid will help things a little bit. It has around 78,000 miles on it.

How long do these auto transmissions last?

How much would it cost to do a 5 speed swap?

Thanks,
Steve

Different cars are different about that.. If you think your trans is notchy feeling, go drive a WRX or a VW GTI, its pretty notchy with no slop/movement in other directions.. I like it that way.. feels sporty.

Prelude's seem to feel 'buttery', which is fine to with me.. especially after repeated shifting..

the best i agree would be Honda ATF is the best to get. i use that in mine. dont look into those performace fluids (Trick Shift). they just leave out any friction addatives and will cause more damage than anything else.

on a side note. tranny fluid should be changed once a year and i always ask before doing flushes on trannies bc if they have not kept up with maintance for extended time, i wont do the job. after awhile of negect the old, dirty, thick fluid acts as a sealer and after replacing and flushing tranny fluid, the new thin fluid will find its way out of the bad seals and result in massive leaks. i have hands on experience with this so words of advice to everyone, stay ontop of fluid changes.

on the side of the tranny near the passenger wheel will be a bolt that has a 3/8 socket fitting on it. just get a wrench on that and take it off. then let the fluid change and put the bolt back in and pull the dipstick out and fill up. i forgot how much but i can find out if you need to know. then you have to start the car and run through all the gears, better if you dont drive around while doing this. after about 5 mins check the level and make sure its right. remember, to much fluid is worse than not enough in auto trannies. thats about it. good luck its really easy to do i am sure you will have no problem
