Tranny Fluid...

I am trying to figure out how to put my 10-w30 oil in my tranny... Sounds dumb huh? LOL, would you believe I just made it through a h22a swap by myself with help of 3 different ppl(novice also) on different days... I am left with filling my tranny fluid, rebuilding my suspension, and hooking up my vtec oil pressure sensor... Sadly, I dont know which one it is... All my connectors are connected and I have the extra one cut form the JDM harness, but no where to plug it... Ayyone with any help for either problem.. Pics appreciated!

Are you not able to find out where to plug it in on the engine itself or into the chassis wiring?

The engine plugs are easy enough to find. The VTEC oil pressure sensor is right next to the solenoid and is green. The chassis ones I posted pics about them.

Please specify which ones you are talking about.

As far as the tranny oil you kinda have to rig something up. Most people use a funnel with a long tube attached to the end of it. I used a hand pump from Schucks for it. Either way, be sure to do it with the car as level as possible.

Good luck,

OK.. so the vtec oil pressure sensor is right below the soleniod correct? Damn, that means I have a plug thats not matching up right as I have a yellow/white(power) wire and black(ground) coming out of the connector which is attached there now.. Wonder where that one goes, or if it just hangs...?

I dont know where the funnel thing is supposed ot go in the Tranny... Thats my problem... I understand it should be level and the filler hole/screw??? should be on the side of the tranny... I just dont know where or how much oil it holds! Gimme a clue guys...(Zimmlude, you are the man!)

It takes a little more than 3 quarts. There are two bolts, one to fill, one to drain. The fill bolt is the higher one. I use a turkey baster to squirt the fluid in.

hey there is an easy way to do this, take off the shifter linkages, and unbolt 4 bolts that hold the mechanism to the top of the tranny and just pour is straight down there.

Wow, three quarts!!! The tranny in our cars take at most two quarts on a full rebuild!!

As for the sensor, there is one below there that looks the same but is for the ECT sensor. The one I am talking about is next to the solenoid. It is at about the same level as the distributor on the head.

man, zimmlude.. take a picture for me if you can... am a complete idiot appearently... I just got my axles in and came up to check.. I got plenty of rebuilding left to do suspension wise and all and then figuring out how to swap crank pulleys once the engine is in the car shouldne be too bad, but thats why I need the axles in... I broke off 3 sockets on it and finally bought some good ones once the engine was in, but we figured out we could replace it once it was dropped as long as we could get around the suspension... Good times... Can anyone confirm shifter linkage holders as being a good place ot fill tranny at? I can take those things off inabout 30 secs flat right now.. I just put them on about 5 hrs ago this morning.. I would rather go straight in if I have the option and thats on top.. Two quarts is what I am assuming since 3 sounds like alot and some reason zimmlude seems to know his ****... Thanks guys and keep up the help.. Every time a 19 yr old kid with little honda knowledge and no HELMS(backorder) does a swap and completes it alright you have ot be impressed at several things.. And your knowledge is one of them..

Here is the best pic I can get. I don't the digi cam handy. The plugs you are looking for are inside the circle.

Like I said, there is a plug very similar to the one you are looking for below it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

As for filling the tranny, I am wary about filling it that way. Oil might pool in places and you won't be able to fill it to the right level. The bolt used for filling the tranny is above the drain bolt and to the left (when looking at it from the wheel well).

I would be wary of filling it that way too just because you have to take out the regular fill bolt anyway since that is how you tell when you have added enough (when it runs back out).

A funnel with tube pre-attached runs like $2 at Pep Boys.

God do you ever owe me for taking engine bay pics at 3 AM. VTEC oil pressure sensor is the green plug, center of frame. One blue wire, one black wire (not visable).

Just one comment: instead of using the 10w-30 motor oil like the manual suggested for the manual tranny, go get some honda manual transmission fluid. It'll be worth it in the long run.

I ment to remind you to check that you wern't confused with that intake actuator plug. I really dont know why they have that solenoid mounted on the fuel rail, as opposed to by the intake tube.

I filled my tranny oil in less than 10 minutes including the time it took to jack the car up, take the wheel off, put it back on, and drop the car....using a funnel with a tube attached... i used the tranny fill plug to do so as you're supposed to on level ground until it runs out... its easy, i promise!

The drain plug uses a 3/8" drive socket wrench and the fill hole uses a.... 17mm i think? And its definately 2 qts as per my experience and the almighty helms.

Depending on your setup, it may be easier to take off the reserve sensor thing and fill that way. The capacity is so close to 2qts, I just drain it all and do it through the reverse thing.

Whoever said to do it through the shift linkage place....how do you get your intake out of the way. I sure as heck have never been able to take all that off without my intake out of the way.

The reverse part I am talking about is #8 in this picture. It is on the front side of the part where the linkages attach.

EDIT: I just remembered that the last time I did it I took off the rubber cap (#5 in pic, it caps off the little nipple to the left of it) and attached a short tube to there and filled it that way. REALLLYYY easy. I believe that is why Honda put that thing there anyways.
