Trade Lude for Del Sol?

What is everyones opinion on Del Sols?

I have been trying to sell my car for awhile..and I recieved an email from a guy with a Del Sol who is trying to sell his car to get a 4th gen Prelude. He is offering to trade his car + some cash for my car. It is a 93 S..he had an SI (SOHC vtec) motor and tranny swapped in, i/h/e, port and polished head..then little things like pedals, shift knob etcetc. Motor has 40k miles and rest of car is 120k.

I have a 96 SI..only mod that would be on it is Nuespeed springs..it has 89k miles.

What would you do? I personally am a fan of Del Sols. If done right I think they are awesome..stylish cars. Not to mention I love targa tops Would it be worth it? I'm thinking about doing it just to have something differant. I dont really see it as a downgrade, or an upgrade. How much more should I ask..on top of the Sol?

I appologize for the long post..but if you are browsing this site you probably have nothing better to do anyways

Thanks

I also think Del Sol's look pretty bad if they are done right! I wonder if you can swap an H22 into a Sol......that would be sweet!

with 120K on the car and 40 K on a new motor...

it sounds like the guy has driven the car pretty hard. I don't like the sound of him having to replace the motor without any major upgrades in the bottom end to gain more perf. it sounds like he blew the engine and had to replace it. this doesn't bode well for the rest of the car (ie suspension, brakes, tires, trans, diff....) if you really want the car have it checked out by a trustworthy shop before making any decisions.

personal opinion? well.. they're friggin cool arse cars. They're about as easy to mod as a civic, and they drive like they're on rails (see: CRX).

As far as they car being 'beaten on' and driven hard.. well, I don't think that should be much of a concern. As long as the frame is good..

I mean really, if you're going to buy it, and mod it, it really should matter what the heck else it has, but that's just the way I look at it.

You can pick up a GSR motor pretty darn cheap (from a GSR owner who might have bought a JDM ITR motor), and then go all out Toda internals or something to that extent.. you'd have a darn fast n/a car. The targa is just a bonus.

I'm a die hard lude fan all the way, but if it's what you want, go for it.

What's up Chris? I thought you were going to the next level? Don't get me wrong, Del Sols are nice, but I think you will be in the same situation with this car. After a while you will be wondering if it's worth it to mod your car to go faster. Although with the b series motor you will have A LOT more options.

It's a tough call. I'm sure you could make it nice. Some guy that worked at Speedoptions (Can't remember name) had a really nice one.

I've seen an H23 in a del sol. It was quick, but very front heavy. A lot of understeer (or oversteer?)

I say get a "next-level" car and get a Civic hatchback, too. I'm lookin for a CRX I can throw around right now.

Thanks for your replies everyone The deal is that he would give me his car plus $3k. With that money I would probably buy a b18c1, and drop it in.

Sup JP

Well..I was going to keep my car and buy a street bike. Either way I am still going to get the bike, I am just thinking about trading because he offered. If it falls through then I am I keeping my car..no big deal. He still sounds very serious about the trade, it would be nice to just have something differant I guess. If he wil go through with it then I more than likely will too.

96 Prelude Si for a 93 Del Sol Si+$3k ?

No way.

Please, you have to ask for at least $6k
That's enough for a GSR transplant and some FI
How sick would that be?

Yeah, with a bike everything else seems slow so your car won't really matter.

I didn't realize you had a 1996. Definitely keep it.

Here's your answer, plain and simple.

Kelly Blue Book for the Prelude

Kelly Blue Book for the Del Sol

Thanks JP

Strange..the value of my car is changing. I just checked it last night when I was talking to him and got $10,075. I just checked it again with the exact same stuff as last night and got $9,895..and you got $10,800. Maybe its just a randomm #? lol

I got $6,525 for his car. Hmmm

On a side note..I recieved an email from a guy earlier today with a 2001 Integra Type R wanting to trade. Its lowered with 18" racing Hart C2 EVOS. I am sure that he wants a good bit of cash on top of my car..but havnt heard anything back. It would be nice though!!

Now you're talking. Type Rs are nice. I think he at least wants 10k on top of your car; AT LEAST.

One of the variables in the value of your car is also ZIP code, which is why mine is different than what you got.

Sell the lude, Take your time finding a new ride, and roll your parents phat ride.

I tried selling my car for 3 months..had no luck. My brother got screwed over when he bought the car..so we owe too much now. We owe about $9k..and you can see that the KBB is hardly more than that..so I guess I am screwed. That is why I was hoping for the trade

And yeah..for a 2001 ITR with mods..I think that he will want over 10k. What I'm wondering is..why in the hell does he want to trade it for a 96 Prelude?!

Damn, sorry to hear that. Live and learn I guess.

So you have been patient, huh?

That is also a big reason I don't want to trade or sell my car; I don't want to get screwed. I just gave my other cars away.

Yeah I have wanted a new car for awhile. I can not trade the prelude in because we owe more than we could get..and paying for something that I no longer have just doesnt appeal to me

It mostly sucks because it was my brothers screw-up and I am having to suffer for it now. Oh well..I guess there isnt anything that we can do about that now heh
