TPS sensor

While my car is cold it will throw a code and my idle will slump down to 200 and below and sometimes stalls. If I let it warm up and restart the car and let it sit for a couple of minutes the problem disappears completely til the next time I let it sit and cool down. I went ahead and got it diagnosed after class today. Turns out the TPS is bad. The mechanic told me that the entire throttle body needs to be replaced. I'm just wondering if this is fact or can I just replace the sensor itself?

Thanks

You can replace the sensor. The TPS screws on USDM throttle bodies are ground flat. You can cut a notch in the ground off screw heads and unscrew them. JDM TB's have the screws intact. So technically he is correct since Honda does not offer just this part for sale (atleast not here) and at first glance, it looks like it cannot be removed. If he won't do this even after telling him that it is possible, take it home and give it a shot. Its easy to do. You need a multimeter, assorted sockets, screwdriver, and a Dremel or other rotary tool.

You can pick up a new TPS on ebay (made by Blox, whoever they are): BWR THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TPS D16 B16 B18 H22 F22:eBay Motors (item 370261028391 end time Sep-22-09 20:51:30 PDT)

Just finished this project. it was very easy, even to adjust it and calibrate it with the multimeter. The only part I had problems with was getting the machine screws out of the original TPS. I happened to have a drill with a head that looked kind of like a mini circular saw, so I just attached that and it made slots where a flat head could fit within 30 seconds.

So in the end I ended up saving over $550

This forum is amazing haha
