auto and manuals IMO are close to the same. manuals have 5 gears and have less difference between gearing ratios, but autos have 4 gears but have a bigger difference between gears

The Torque converter will alow you to put more HP to the ground...and add more bite when shifting gears, its way more aggressive.

Either look up getting a converter from www.levelten.com or if u know any mechanics that work on domestic racing cars, they can build or modify your existing torque converter...

I called my local shop and the guy said for torque converter and shift kit $1200..does this seem reasonable and would it be worth it...He said they did it to a stock 96 auto SI lude and it ran 15.0 consistantly at the tracks....has anyone actually had any experience with this stuff... also thank you to the first 2 replies for stating the obvious..lol

My 95 Si is auto..and I'm considering converting to manual. That should cost me about what? A grand? If what that mechanic told you about the torque converter is true..and that auto lude running 15's stock then I'd definitely go that route by paying $200 more and stay with auto rather than convert to manual and run 15.7's. Sorry I'm not very experienced engine-wise in cars..What exactly is a shift kit? And was the 96 auto Si still auto after they added the shift kit/torque converter?

i got the auto h22 swap done...i am doing my tranny over with the torque convertor and rebuild kit...

what a tc does is give your car a higher stall...normal auto have a stall at 1800 rpms...so at 1800 rpms the car starts to take off...our cars dont get high hp numbers till around 3000 rpms...the tc will set the stall at 3000 rpms so you can power break at the line and release at 3k without a lot of spin and better lanuch...cost from level10 is about 500, you ship your tc to them and they will rebuild and mail back to you

a shift kit is a little gasket that goes in the tranny and blocks off certain openings and stuff in the tranny...it will allow for the tranny to shift faster and harder into gears...kit costs about 100-150, not sure on labor costs

the rebuild kit from level10 changes every piece in the tranny to make it stronger...it doesnt make it fater persay...the level10 rebuild kit is for high hp engines...normal trannys can handle a certain amount of hp before they break down...with this rebuild kit you can hit 800+ hp and not worry about breaking tranny...cost 400, not sure on labor cost

lucky for me i have a friend with a tranny shop that is good friends with the owner from level10 and i am getting my tranny done for about the pirce of a good cluch

the price to convert auto to manual is usually 1000 plus parts needed from manual car (200-400) that is about 1300 for .3 of a 1/4 time taken off...for 500 you can get a tc and be equal with money left over to get i/h/e and what not...IMO its better to beat somoen in a race and go..."good race. by the way, i am AUTO and drive off" ...love seeing peoples faces after that
