took out ps pump

while fixing yet another exhaust leak i had i decided to take out my power steering pump and see how it feels...it might be the mental hp but i think i noticed a little...my question is, i NEVER use my ac at all...i want to take it out but the belt for the ac goes around the ac and the altinator...how or what do i have to do to take out the ac and have a belt for the altinator working? also by taking these out will i get any hp gains?

All 4th gens have a/c as far as i know. So there shouldn't be a honda belt for that. Try talking to AEM see if they have a belt made for that purpose. You figure if they sell their pullies with new belts, someone may have already asked them to size a belt w no a/c. Can't hurt. Also maybe a dx accord belt from our years w no a/c may work. I wouldn't bet on that though.

just get a string and measure the size belt you need and take it to an auto parts store.

^^ just what he said, I work at a NAPA store and thats the easiest way or get a tape measure that is nylon or something and you can wrap it around the path of the belt, either way should get you close enough

My friend with his '96 VTEC (but still OBD1) has no A/C and thus shorter belt, so Honda must sell them.

When A/C is off, it turns really freelly and I think there will be no improvements. Maybe if you remove all the A/C stuff and save some weight...

I have been told that even in a Miata, the a/c system weighs in over 50 lb. Even if the Lude's system is that light, 50 lb is 50 lb. Evey little bit helps if your after ultimate speed. But if you are still using it for street use, leave it in, because someday you'll need it.

Hey, they do sell a belt for the alt only. I went to kragen and they had it but couldnt find it, so i went to a local shop and they had it in stock. Just ask for the serpentine belt without the ac. Its not as big of a deal as i thought it was going to be. Mine was like 25$ but its supposedly the best belt made. I hear they cost about 8$ normally.

Removing the Ac is alot more then just one belt. You need to remove all those lines, remove that little *** box inside the front bumper, remove the little AC condensor in the front and the compressor too.

With it out your radiator has a nice straight shot at all the air(and rocks).

I pulled mine because it didnt work, and i was getting tired of bending the stupid lines to get to stuff.

for those who think taking the belts off and just leaving the alt pulley on is not going to do anything, You thought wrong! Anything that frees up rotational inertia on the crank pulley frees up wheels hp, there for this equals a faster time and Et's

^^ what he said is how i've always heard it

on a side note.... you may not use your AC to cool down but keep in mind that when it rains it is an absolute *%&*# to defog your windows with no AC.

yeah i talked to one of my friends and he said that when the ac is off its a freely moving pulley until you turn the compressor on...i am going to the track tomorrow so i will just leave the ps off but when i get home i will put it back on...getting more of a workout driving than at the gym

If your looking for all out speed, you bought the wrong car.

If your willing to sacrifice your A/C system because it weighs Xlbs then have your already removed your entire interior? Ditched the gas tank in favor of a 8gal race cell in the trunk? Scraped the floorpan of all the sound deadening material?

I bet you havnt...

i wasnt looking to remove all of it...just the belt...i want the ac there if i try to sell but i figured i could just take the belt off and get x amount of hp because if a pulley kit gives you 5-7 than no pulles should be the same if not more?
