Tire Question

Hey all, I have a 93 VTEC and I have had a shimmy in my steering wheel, so i took it over to the local guy to get it balenced, he told me he would put it on there diagnotics machine and then balence it for $20, i said great.
So, he calls me back a couple hours later, says both my rotors are warped, and i broke a belt in one of my tires, cause the shimmy, so says i need to turn the rotors and get 2 new front tires. HE said I could have hit a pothole and broke the tire, which i dont remember hitting, but could of.

My question is:
1. Is he Screwing me over or is this a possible senerio, with both the rotors and tires.
2. What tires do you guys recommend if i do get new ones for around $100 a piece.

Thanks Guys

Warped rotors are probably your problem if you were experiencing a steering wheel shake, so I think he is right with that.

You said that one of the tires has a broken belt so why do you need two front tires? Are they in bad shape where it is probably a good idea to replace the other one? I'm not sure if a shimmy in wheels could cause a belt to blow but often we hit potholes and don't think twice about it. Maybe you did and just didn't seem like a big thing. If your tires were over-inflated then it would be easier to blow a belt (I'm just thinking outloud so don't mind me).

When you go pick up the car I would ask to see the tire with the broken belt just to verify that it is indeed broken.

As for the tires, I've had good experiences with Falken and Nitto.

Good luck.

Mark

Well I could replace just one tire, but i always thought you should replace them in 2's, so there wear evenly.

If they are less than a year old then I wouldn't replace both. More than a year then replace both. In one years time you shouldn't experience much tread wear unless you're very aggressive around the corners.
