Tire Explosion

I was driving on the interstate going about 70-75 mph, and my tire just exploded, almost completely ripped to shreds, destroyed my rim but luckily a steered it well and didn't wreck. But I am curious, does any one have any idea why it would have exploded? I think its a combination of dry rot and being a little over inflated but I am not sure.

Bingo. Why would you drive on dry rotted tires that were over inflated?

Nothing like buying a product and THEN asking if it sucks
