Timming belt changed, slight whinning...

Hey guys,
As a lot of you know I just changed my timming belt. Runs great, it's a LOT smoother.
Anyway, I am hearing this slight whine and I know its coming from the belts, thing is, should I wait and break it in a little bit (just got it last night) or should I go ahead and take it back because the belt may be too tight? Is loosening it up easy?

Thanks
Charlie

Nothing to worry about Charlie. It is the tensioner getting used to the new tight belt.

When I had mine done, I thought the shop put a supercharger in there as well (wishfull thinking ).

It will slowly disappear over time.

Did you have your auto tensioner replaced also?

Mark

Sweet!! Yes the auto tensioner was replaced
Along with the water pump, and other belts. My car takes longer to cool down now since the pump is new, I guess.

One question, isn't the auto tensioner a one time use thing?

I'm liking it

Thanks Mark!

Yes the auto tensioner is basically a one time use and does wear out quickly. Basically the new tensioner is what is causing the sound. When the tensioner is put on it is adjusting itself to the proper tension and the sound will slowly disappear.

I just wanted to ask if you replaced it because if you didn't then the belts probably needed to be adjusted. Some people on the boards choose not to replace the tensioner because of the extra cost but it is basically a must when changing the belt. The auto tensioner is basically worthless once you hit about 70K miles.

I miss that whine! It made me feel like I was packing more under the hood.

Mark

reusable and if you take the time to do it on your own it can be done for pretty cheap. i did timing bel, balancer belt and water pump and it was not too much over 100 bucks.
