Timing on a JDM H22

Hey I have a friend that just bought a prelude with a JDM H22 swap. He thinks that the tensioner went bad or somehow came loose if that's possible and it threw the timing off. He was able to take the belt off with his fingers. Anyways, how do you timing on that engine? He has crower stage 2 cams with AEM cam gears. Where should everything be? How do you make piston #1 be at top dead center? Thanks

bump for $hitty luck. Basically needs some info about the 3 white lines on the AEM cam gears, and how to get the piston in cyl. 1 to TDC, or something like that. Bump

dude i feel ya.... sounds like the auto tensioner went out on ya. This same damn **** happened to me a few weeks ago but ended up being super bad for me=bent valves. Theres a hell of a lot of info on PO.com about this... do a search for auto tensioner and you'll find exactly what i mean. Here's a great link to a step by step writeup on doing the auto to manual conversion... which i highly recommend.... especially if you have any internal headwork done as this causes excess stress on the tensioner. THe manual is much more reliable and will not go out on ya... I did this swap in about an hour and it was a breeze....aside from getting the crank pulley off..LOL... impact wrench! well good luck and i hope this helps ya out...
for the link to hondatech you hafta create a login i believe but from there it's all good

and for top dead center you should be able to turn the crank pulley and see on the flywheel a notch that indicates its aligned to TDC....kinda eyeballin it more or less but its pretty effective

haha the car was fixed. it was a bolt on the tensioner that broke and threw everything off. a few people said NOT to reuse the auto tensioner but... i was a fool and did it anyway. so the tensioner blew spewing oil all over the place and it threw off timing. i could hear the valves going hahahaha isn't that great? anyways, gonna throw some new stuff in there as soon as i get the chance to order it. i'm HOPING that i'll be lucky twice and that my valves won't be bent. they weren't the first time... hoping for a second
