Timing belt snapped

Well, my car is in the shop right now getting taken apart. My car just stopped yesterday in the middle of an intersection, making me late for a baptisim where I was the godfather. Had it towed to my shop , they called me this morning to tell me the timing belt had broken. I did a search and found a guy w/ a broken belt on his h23. Everyone told him to swap instead of rebuild. I already have the H22a, so what do I do? They're checking valves and pistons and all that to see if I got lucky. But if not, how much work could be involved? What kind of upgrades can I do for the rebuild? It's bone stock motor now, I was looking into a turbo in the near future, but that money will probably go into fixing this. Any help is appreciated.

All depends.
If the belt snapped you will obvously need a new belt. 80$
While you at it you can leave you balancer belt out, that will be a HP improvment.

If they put the belt on and you engine sounds like a bucket of bolts dropping on the floor they will need to remove the head. if they remove the head it will at minimum need a new headgasket. Thats a good 80$.

There is a good chance that the valves were bent or hit the pistons. Getting the valves replaced isnt exactly cheap. Most likely $300+.

If the valves hit the pistons, you will need new pistons, $300+ you will need new rings $80-$250 and new rod bearings $100. Since the bottom is apart they may as well do main bearings which is another $100.

Fluids are another $50

Its kinda early so thats all i can think of. None of these prices include Labor. So add another 20% to that. My suggestion is for them to look at it. If you have damaged pistons get the long block h22a.($1150) If the pistons are still good, repair the head and be off.

You can get a P&P done on the head while its apart if your looking for preformance.

So I got the call that nothing was bent. Wohoo. But now, the job went from a $350 timing belt replacement to $1000 to do the timing belt, balance shaft belt(he highly recomended not taking this off), the front seals, and water pump. He said their was some leakage from the seals and pump and recomends fixing it. I'm pretty sure the pump and seals were redone already when the belt was first changed. Think I can get away without changing these?

the balencer belt is only on for driver comfort. thats it.

right scott?

i'd see if you can get an h23 manual tensioner and throw that on as well. the water pump should be replaced (depending on when it was last replaced).
