I changed the timing belt on my 92 and when I took it for a drive, I noticed the exhaust was louder, and I lost a ****load of power. It almost felt like I was running on 3 cylinders, but they're all sparking. The only thing I arrive at is that my timing is off. When I put on my new belt, I had my cams locked in place (TDC). Did I **** up? Was i supposed to release the cams after installing my belt, and THEN turn it counter clockwise. The tension is good. Can I still fix this? Please, my lude needs attention!!
locking them in place as in i stuck 2 drill bits in the holes through the cam shafts behind the cam gears to keep them at TDC. After i slide on the belt, do i take them out, THEN turn the crank left to tighten?? Because i left the drill bits in, tightened the the belt, then took the bits out.
Probably not. I had a similar experience when I replaced my belt. It jumped timing while we were turning the crank. As soon as I started the car, it started running like poop.
You'd probably notice if there was any contact b/t valves and pistons.
When you changed the belt, when you put it on was there even a little bit of slack up top between the cam gears? When I changed mine a while back, the slack cause the right one to turn back 1 tooth... Redid it making sure it looked alright then it ran sexy
After turning the crank counter clockwise.. no slack. Finally have a day off today and gonna take a stab at adjusting the belt. Hopefully, thats my problem.
Its been a while since i adjusted my timing. My car runs great but now, my oil light started flickering at idle (like at 900) after my motor warms up. Things I changed recently: Oil pump, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit. After searching a bit, I've come to the conclusion that its my sending unit. Maybe I didn't tighten it enough. Should I have used teflon tape on the threads? Should I use thicker oil? I also adjusted my idle via throttle cable. This does eliminate my oil light but it idles like at 1500. WTF??? Any help guys.
