Timing Belt Questions

Timing belt on my 93 SR snapped, so I am about to change it. I have the laundry list of other stuff to change along with it. I have a couple problems/questions:

1. Don't have a Helms manual, and they are out of stock. Does anyone have 1 FS or can send me scans or something?? I can pay for any costs.

2. How do I tell if I've done any valve damage? Was going about 35 mph at the time and slowing down, so I'm hoping the damage is minimal.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Thanks a lot, I found the scans and they will help a ton.

Now to figure out a compression test...

well when mine broke, the easiest way to tell was to take off the valve cover and check out the rocker arms. the only thing that keeps the rocker arm in place is how its sandwhiched between the cam and the valve, via valve springs. so if any of your valves bent the valve could still be stuck and there would be little to no pressure on the rocker arm.

so just wiggle at your rocker arms, if any of them move then that valve could be bent. i bent all 16 valves and with some of the intake valves i could just pull out the rocker arm.

if you bent valves your going to need a really big laundry list...

Incorrect. They should ALL move, but only when each set is at it's cylinders TDC. That's not a very accurate way to see if you have bent valves. Just go buy a $20 compression tester, and test your compression, it takes 5 min, easy as pie.

ummm i was in the same exact position, thats how i figured out how some of my valves were badly bent.

TDC or not, at most there should be little play, but if you could pull out rocker arms or if there is more wiggle than normal; then you have bent valves. trust me you can tell what movement is normal, and what is excessive.

yes you can tell what's normal and what's not, only if you're experianced in knowing what the 'normal' wiggle is.

From what you told him, he would take off the valve cover, and check his rockers, and one maybe 2 sets topps would wiggle, the others wouldn't, due to the fact that one of the cylinders is near TDC.. that would lead him to assume that those valves are bent, which is very wrong. They're supposed to wiggle, and actually have a suprising amount of play at TDC, that's no way to check your valves. Now, if you check your rockers at each cylinder at BDC, and they move, THEN your valves are bent.. they should not move whatsoever at BDC because that's when they're on the lobe.
