Timing Belt Opinion

Hey Guys,

I was hoping that maybe I could get some feedback about whether or not I should change my timing belt soon. I have a 96 VTEC with approximately 101,000 miles on it. The timing belt has been changed once before, by the first owner at 56,000 miles in 2002.

I was talking with a buddy who is a Honda Service Manager and he told me that the belt should be changed every 90,000 miles or 7 years. What do you guys think? The car is due for a valve adjustment, so should I just have them do the t-belt while they are in there? Or do you think it's nothing to worry about and that I still have anywhere from 20-40k miles left on the belt?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

that sounds about for 90k change...by all means being safe than sorry is better. if the have the time or skill to do it your self and want to have a day of fidiling with your car do it. but your not at an urgent stay of getting one...maybe at 130.. or so you want to reconsider.

Visually inspect the belt and you should know whether or not it needs changed.

My car has 217xxx miles and not sure when its been changed. i think its been rebuilt but idk when the belt was changed last. Are there any warning signs to look out for? My brothers DSM's belt caused him $1500 worth of head work bc it slipped and thats what I want to avoid lol

you should have the belt changed about every 100k but more importantly!!!!! change the hydraulic tensioner your suppose to visualy inspect it for leaks every 80-100k but dont bother just replace it. it only cost about 85 bucks thru honda and is very much worth it cause if it goes out kiss your head goodbye
