Time for a new radiator...

Went and tlkaed to the mechanic today. My radiator is cracked at the top, not badly tho, he said i just need to watch thye temp(duh) and check the fluid level alot. In other words I dont have to fix it right away, which is good, since my 16 year old broke ass doesnt have $300 to fix it right now. Oh well, the cycle continues...

Just replaced mine recently as well.. But $300 US!!! That is crazy!!
I paid around $300 CAN for the part AND install. This is a copper core rad. (Not the Honda OEM)

You got ripped off!!! I got a radiator for my 96 vtec for $140!! And then of course I installed it myself. I think we should hold classes on this board for general maintenance on our ludes, that way those f'n mechanics can't screw us for labor anymore! Who thinks that is a good idea?

ya, i got one for 120 bux (on my accord) and only took about 2 hours to install myself (if that). I am not a mechanic by any means, hardest things ive done is springs/struts and then i did the radiator just by looking at it, and made sure engine was cold, and made sure not to spill (when takign the hoses off). If i can do it anyone can.

Call around, the install is pretty easy, and almost every parts store will sell you a radiator for less than $160 US dollars. There is a slight difference between the mounting holes for the fans on the Si denso type versus some of the VTEC ones, but that's no big deal (with plastic tie-wraps you can do anything). I paid $140 for mine. We had this discussion a little while ago, do a search and you shall find.

The Sr (si) and Sr-V (Vtec) rads are identical. Same Denso part numbers.

The Si and the VTEC radiators are not identical! The radiator shop that I got my radiator through gave me an Si radiator first and the damn fans wouldn't bolt up right, and no I wasn't about to jimmyrig them on with some tie straps like someone else here said. So anyways I got the wrong one the first time, proving that the Si and the VTEC radiators are not the same.

Well, the $300 price is an estimate, and it is for the Honda oem radiator plus install. I have little or no mechanical inclination so im gonna pay for install. Also, the place I am getting it done at is highly regarded as the best place that works on hondas and acuras, and I dont think they're trying to screw me.

i dont think you should buy another stock radiator. you should save the 300 and buy a fluidyne radiator. it looks way better and it will give you better cooling. it will cost more but since you are already gonna spend the money you should save a little more and buy a performance radiator. but if you dont buy performance buy the honda one not a junky autozone one.

Same thing happened to me at first as well. They showed a listing for the 2.2 Lude.... the SOHC! So going back to them we found it to be the same part # as the SR. Even comparing the 2 rads between my SR-V and my friends SR it has THE SAME DENSO PART NUMBER.

Once again, let me settle this argument about the radiators. There is a difference between SOME of the radiators. There are actually 2 types of radiators for the 93-96 Vtec. It has a DENSO and a TOYO. The DENSO is the same unit that is mounted in the SI, and S. Although I believe that Honda has changed there Parts catalog to only the DENSO unit. To help ease the problems with the fitment. If your Vtec came with a TOYO, then there will be some fitment issues with the fans. My car has a TOYO unit, and no radiators around here in the parts stores work. I wound up ordering a C&R Aluminum Double row unit, with single high flow fan. About 485 bucks. Cheaper than a stocker, and better than a replacement. If you want a unit that is guaranteed to fit, but don't want the Stock Honda unit because of cost, then you should check out KOYO. There website is www.koyocooling.com.

Hi,

It's it possible to use fluidyne radiator or other rads for Si? Koyo's website only indicates H22A, so does that that mean it can be used for H23A as well?

Thanks in advance.
