Thoughts on K20 engine swap

I'm not really mechanically inclined, but I saw an article where they put a K20 into a civic. It sounded a little more complex than a b series swap. But in that article, it sounded like everything was a little experimental. Has anyone thought about or attempted a K20 swap into their prelude? What would be involved?

K series is good, H series is genius.

Just my opinion, you're entitled to your own of course.

Well with that said, i feel the h22 could still run with teh k series. Some guy on h-t had an adaptor plate for a b series tranny to a bone stock jdm h22. The motor and tranny were in a crx. The thing ran 11.9 in stock form with just slicks.

Food for thought.

Also a jdm k20a with tranny mated to a crx in the past has pulled a very similar time of 11.8.

You'd need similar custom items as you would in an older civic swap. Mounts, axles, exhaust manifold, shifter cables, and wiring harness.

My opinion is you've got those backwards . . . .

I don't think so, 2.0 from a 2.2/2.3 thats like a step down IMO plus our cars are about 200pounds more then the RSX TYPE S. There is this great thread on superhonda.com alll about this swap good and bad points.

Displacement shmisplacement . . . . they make more power, have better gearing, have a much broader torque curve, a better aftermarket, and they respond much better to modifications. They also weigh a LOT less than an H22.

a k series swap in a lude should only be considered if you have a non-vtec engine to start with and all you want to do is bolt+ons w/tuning

with the amount of work you have to do to swap in and make the k20 work.. its not worth it at all... its like doing LS/VTEC on an integra.. imo.. its stupid to attempt to do..

If you were to attempt to do a K-series motor in a prelude, u would want to get the k24 found in the TSX. Has good torque, 6sp tranny, and 200 hp like the rsx-s.

Doesn't the K spin in the opposite direction of the H, much like the S2000's F20,F22c?, or was it just the S2k's engine that was different?

They do but when cars get mounts for k series motors it makes them sit the way they sit in rsxs, IM where prelude headers sit and the header sits where the IM sits on a h22. No biggy. If i remember right, hasport was on their way making a kit for preludes to have a tsx motor on them. People have ran i/h/e on tsx motors making about 214whp tuned on hondata and like 170ish tq. !!

^^^ niiiice. While I'm sure it's stupid-expensive to do a K24 swap, that's still pretty damn nice, 2.4L and VTEC.

if i had money to blow and some time... i'd consider doing it to my 3rd gen seen atleast 4 h22 swaps in 3rd gens, becoming more straightforward on how to actually do it so doing something different could be a fun project... might turn out some good results without any other mods

Yea that would be awsome! Not something you'd see every day. A 3rd gen with some power.

what do u mean? The k24 is DOHC. The TSX is a 2.4 DOHC I-VTEC motor. Puts out 200hp (Fly) mated with a 6sp box. Basically, the TSX in the states is the EURO R over in Europe just with a different name. The k24 found in the TSX is a better version of the motor found in the new crv and accord. it has higher revs and basically has a RSX-S head on it which enables it to put out 200hp. Wheater or not if its ideal or not to swap into a prelude/accord chassis is a whole different disccusion. TSX motors are not very easy to find nor are they cheap. There is alot of potential in the K-series motors, but the question is if it is worth it or not for 200hp and a 6sp tranny.

i think it would be worth it. i would start buying the parts as soon as hasport came out with the mount kit.

and not as hard to find as you think... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
