Those with T.V's for your cars, or those with knowledge..
What does it take to install a t.v. screen in your dash/headrest? And what have you folks found to be the best or worst models of t.v.'s? What's a good price to pay? I'm looking for something that will be able to be mainly used as a local television watcher (i.e. local channels), and possibly a DVD player. Probably more than one I am looking at buying, depending on the price.. Thanks folks. Also, pictures!!!!!!
I am going to checkout a Kenwood 7" in-dash lcd screen for my car. Hookup a 8disc changer to that and get rid of my deck. I want to do a custom install in the centre heater vents [ive never seen it done before] For dvd and stuff I just gonna get a PS/2.

Im gonna go for a 5" LCD in the dash like PreludeV1 on hp.com. Its gonna be $100-150. Then Im gonna get a DVD/VCD/MP3/CD player for $150-200 and hook that up.
VCD is great, cuase it plays MPEG format. So you can download Divx, convert it to mpeg, then burn it without the cost of expensive DVD burners. You can fit a whole movie on two CDR's.
Im hoping I can do the whole project for $250, but will probably be closer to $300. I have researched this a bunch, so if you want I can explain the whole install process on AIM.

You can really do this for that cheap? I have an Alpine monitor just waiting to be put to good use, and this sounds fun.

No name brand 5" LCD is around 100 bucks on ebay.
VCD/DVD/MP3/CD player is around $165. Obviously it will be alot more expensive to get top of the line. I figure I wont actually watch movies and it is more of for show, so there is no point in going all out. The VCD/DVD/MP3/CD is shaped like a discman, so therefore it can also serve the purpose of out of car traveling. The reason I am choosing that is for the VCD. You download Divx movies, convert them to MPEG then burn them with CDR. No costly DVDRs, and a whole movie fits on two CDRs.
As far as the install, the LCD power can come from tapping into the cigarette lighter. For the VCD/DVD/MP3/CD you can probably do the same, but I am just gonna run them on batteries. The LCD screen then has an RCA hookup so to run that to the VCD/DVD/MP3/CD player, it easy. Then to run the sound of the VCD/DVD/MP3/CD to the headunit I am going to remove my factory CD player (seperate from factory headunit), and wire it in its place. This way I will not need to buy a new headunit, and I will still be able to play MP3s and CDs.
I have not done any of this yet, so dont quote me; but this is all based on the information I have received from people who have done this.
If a few people are actually intersted, we should get a group deal. There are so many ebay sellers, you can bargain with them and when buying in bulk you can get a good deal.
Also, I am planning on attempting the install sometime in the next month or two; because right now my car is in the shop. My estimate cost is $300 (taking into account little things like wires and dremel rental), but I would acccount an extra $50 to take into accoutnt hose little things that always come up.

We should meet and do the install together with Justin. He has installed his in the corner (passenger side by the tweeters), and is planning on reinstalling his in the middle like PreludeV1. He lives in Buena Park (nots berry farm area), so we should all meet in one of our garages (whichever is closest) and do it.
He says it took him 2 days in procrasiting; and said it could easily be done in 1 day.
If you guys want to do it, my parents are away the last week of january, so we can work in my garage/driveway with no interference.
Just let me know,
-Jordan

i have a no name 5.5 inch tv custom installed in the passenger dash and i have a ps2 installed in the middle rear compartment...got it all done for $450...i'll try to post pics...
Anyone know if you can play dvds while the car is moving? I've heard that you cant do it, its against the law or something. Ha like i care, is there anyway to rewire it, so it can run whenever?
or you can use a custom-made computer based on a 1U chassis, making it fit under your seat! Slap in ATI's All In Wonder video card....now you have tv, mp3, visual sound, divx (free, hehehe), dvd and tons of games via emulation (right now I can play SNES, N64 and PSX games on my PC!)
Right now my lcd is on the passenger side. As soon as I transfer my pc to a 1U chassis, I will move it in the middle and push the temp/fuel gauge to the right.
BTW I bought my lcd screen off ebay for about $100 shipped (2 years ago). With today's economy, prices should drop on those babies! Oh, I used to have PS2 too on my lude but I sold it for a set of Skunk2 coilovers

It's cool man! But next time, you better show up or else
Anyways, I think I'll just use my current lcd because I'm kinda low on $$$ and I need to buy parts for my in-car pc. I think for the dash you can go 5" (not sure on that). Mine's 4" and it fits perfectly.
oh well, it was cool seeing your lude at the meet.
(your gonna have an in car pc? you can live in your lude man)

When do you start school again, because I would consider driving down to Beuna Park at the end of the month - that is if you have a dremel I can use so I dont have to rent one for my car

I haven't bought a dremel yet but soon I will. As far a school is concerned, I started Jan. 2nd Maybe this coming holiday I will get myself a dremel and relocate my lcd. Can you ship the dash cover? I will paypal you the shipping fee if u have one. Or if u want I can send u cash--I'm guessing around 5 bucks.
Btw did u buy ur lcd yet? If u have all the materials maybe we can get started. Here's a quick list:
1. 4-5" LCD
2. Inline fuse holder with ~5Amps rating
3. Male to Female RCA adapter (~5ft.)
4. Toggle switch
5. Extra wires
6. Dremel w/ flex shaft - IMPORTANT
7. Dremel bits: cutter & polisher
I think thats it. I got the miscellaneous stuffs covered (drill, jigsaw, elec tape and other sh@ts)

Since I dont know anything, you can use my garage since I kinda live between beuna park and palmdale, oh and I also do a good job of watching

Jordan you wanna get me a screen. I'll try to see if a 5.6 will fit if not a 5 will do. I can send like 150 and then you can give me back the difference of you could buy it and I could pay you when we go to do the install.
