For those MSD Ignitions & coils

I wanted to know if it would be safe to paint the housing of my MSD SCi and blaster 2 coil before I installed it.

While I don't mind the silver of the SCI I really don't want the bright red with chrome blaster sticker under my hood. Is it safe to have the parts color matched to my car? And will it afffect performance of these units. I'de have to strip the paint with a chemicle striper

I only paid $100 for the SCI..and $28 for the coil...I wasn't asking for your opinion..I just needed the straight facts. And by the way they are not the same unit the 6a requires pills the sci has a soft touch nob controll. The 6A is also slightly larger

So I'll ask again, can I color match the housings on my ignition and coil without it affecting the performance of the units

didn't mean to come accross rude Prelude 3885, I just haappend to read your reply at a bad time. But everything I said was true. You should really read the question before you provide your opinion. I already know the specs on the two units..unless you meant the 6al because those are similar in size, but the 6al still uses pills

Unless its some kind of high metal content paint that would arc, I dont see why you couldn't paint it. Just be sure to use laquer based paint.

nope as a matter of fact I'm even taking out the metal flake content in my stock color and just using the base color

I rememmber this thread, didn't mean to infer that you were an idiot. I have seen the 6a and the 6al up close and there are mechanical diff. For example the pill rev limiter control, versus the knob control, as well as the retard timing on the 6a which I do not have on my SCI , (we don't need to retard only advance). And the 6al is slighlty larger (about 1/2 an inch longer).

I've been here for some time and use the search function before I ask a question. The thread you referanced had nothing to do with what I was specifically asking, and only tried to prove your mute point that had nothing to do with my question. there is no need to over this, I apologize again if I came across rude
