thinking about a h23 long block over a full h22 swap

hmotors has the h23 long block for $975. I was originally thinking about a full h22 swap to go into my SI but I don't think I can handle saving an extra 3 weeks to a month without a car. Plus that extra 1k could go to other things I want to fix on the car, and a new monitor, etc...

what do you think? I just need my car back again, I'm really not that much into performance and I'm just returning the car back to stock for the most part. How much harder is it to bolt up the tranny?

If you already have an SI it the engine should drop right in with no modification and with very few problems.

The transmission should be very easy to transfer once the engine is out so you shouldn't have any troubles with that either.

you're talking about a vtec swap right? I almost think it would be easier since I don't have to deal with carrying over the tranny. The h23 long block seems more feasable, although I kind of wanted a new tranny since my first gear seems to be going out

I think you should still do the full H22 swap - do it right or do it twice as they say. Is there no way at all to get around town without having a car?

there really isn't anyway to get around. my boss gives me a ride to work and back every single day. I can't do anything else at all and it's driving me nuts. I don't think I can handle another 3-4 weeks of it.

I rarely ever go over 5k anymore so I don't know if an h22 is even worth it

If you rarely push the car, then why not just stick with a H23 ?

yes i was talkin about the h22 swap... the prices shouldn't be that far off from one another... if you ever plan on selling the car, you will get more for having a h22 in the car.

a credit card is your best friend in this situation

its the best thing i've ever done to my car / the most pita (because of small problems)

if i were you, just buy an h22 w/o the tranny. you should be able to find around the the 1k mark (maybe a little more) for just the h22 + ecu

The crank pulley was wobbling. I thought the bolt came loose but even with 23847 pounds of torque it wouldn't budge (loosen/tighten). I'm guessing something bad happened like the crank walked, I don't know. It was time anyway. I ended up breaking the crank pulley bolt off, drilling a hole in it and breaking a extraction bolt inside of it

I ordered all the spare parts I'm going to need. Ordered a bunch of other goodies to (stock exhaust, tein h techs, etc). Ordering the good ol 23 this weekend

shouldn't be that bad to smog, just bring it to a mom & pops smog center. Also make sure you keep all your smog related stuff when doing the swap. Emissions should pass if all smog equipment is still there.

oooh, ****ty.

for the H22 there's a long list of crap that you have to do to get it certified to pass smog in CA. (at least with a JDM H22)

I have a JDM H22 swap and passed my most recent emmisions with flying colors, and my EGR system was disconnected at the time.

You don't live in California. They have stringent rules, regardless of whether or not you pass the sniffer. Stuff like: You can't use a JDM ECU, it has to be a USDM ECU.

i just sold a 94 si w/ jdm h22 swap w/ i/h/e... i left all smog control equipment intact and it passed with no prob. Yes, you will need a USDM H22 (p13) ecu. But that shouldn't be too hard to locate... going price is roughly $150 for a p13.
