from that guide's cooling system specs, thermostat opens at "starts" 169-176F and "fully opens" at 194F degrees.

couldn't find the thermostat in that repair guide. however, if you follow your main radiator hose from the radiator to where it enters the engine block, that is where the thermostat should be.

If you disconnect that radiator hose, its going to leak coolant. Just drain the radiator, then flush it and fill it when you are done. couldnt hurt.

Thermostat is located where the lower radiator hose meets the engine block.

I wouldn't bother testing it. They are cheap. If you are going to go to the trouble of taking it out to test it, just replace it. My $.02

if its as cold there as it is here I wouldnt be doing it outside. If you have a garage though, you should be able to do it yourself.

I did this on my 5g and it was a modest *****. Mainly due to spacing. Yes, if you pop the thermo off, it will dump your whole line onto the ground. And yes, i made a huge mess. I would suggest you just drain it off the radiator (the white tab thumb screw thingie). I would also agree, that after all that work, you might want to test it to learn how it 'works' but definately replace it. I paid like $21 at kragen for mine. And it hasnt acted up since (which a faulty thermo will do).

You might want to get an aftermarket thermo too i think its spoon that makes one. I dont know about that one ... i bought the kragen/schucks special :P

ps:
it was only 4 bolts on my 5g, it was just getting them off, and dealing with the split coolant :P And todd told me to drain the line too, i was just ignorant.

is it mugen that makes the thermo and not spoon? or both? I wonder if the aftermarket yeilds any REAL benefits besides the increase in flow...

Is the mugen one worth the 69.00, as opposed to the 12.00 from honda, for a relatively stock application?

Got it done in the shop for $40bux CDN .. ($28 US) including labor .. w00t! with new coolant too ..

the mugen I guess is for extra cooling, goes against what I need so .. stock is good for me.
