Hi, i'm about to buy a thermal exhuast and i'm not sure whether i should get the Classic system or Stealth one. Anyone know the differences or have either one? This will go on a 96vtec.
I ordered the Stealth system, but then I had to trash the box at the shop I got it through to fit the exhaust in the trunk so I could get it home. I have no idea for sure which exhaust I really got and can only assume that I did get the stealth. I'd actually go so far as to say that on occassion I find my exhaust to be a touch too loud. Ordinarily I like the sound, and the tone is good... it's nice and deep, but once in a while when I just feel like I want some peace and quiet it's a bit much. I had heard that Thermal made a good system, and I'm very hapy with it... don't get me wrong, but I would not go with the classic. If I was going for the less restrictive system, I'd just go with an N1 or TRM.
On a side note, can anyone tell me how to tell if my system is the stealth? It's a 4th gen system for the VTEC and it's got the round can with a single tip. It also has a resonator in the mid pipe. I had heard that the stealth had a inverted cone installed before the muffler and that's what reduced the sound and made it more restrictive, but I don't know if it's true or if I can see it with a flashlight shined up the muffler... I don't want to remove the system to check it out, but didn't know if there was any easy visual differences.. maybe a part # stamped somewhere I didn't see or a easy to see difference.
Originally posted by Brady92/4WS i ordered the stealth myself, so im positive mine is a stealth ill check on my exhaust to see if there is any markings or anything.
p.s. It snowed this morning, wtf!?!
Thanks... no snow here... yet. I guess I'm just far enough away to avoid it. Then again it is overcast and that is good. Isn't today the day that Jesus comes out from behind a big rock in a cave and if he sees his shadow there will be winter for 3 more weeks?
I installed the Thermal Classic on my car about a year ago, and that thing is super loud. Way too loud for my tastes. I now have an Apexi Dunk and I am much more satisfied with the sound of this exhaust.
I've even been in a 5th gen with an Apexi N1 and even the Apexi N1 in my opinion was quieter and sounded much better than the 4th gen Thermal Classic. I would rather have the Apexi N1 in terms of loudness and sound than a Thermal Classic anyday (just to state how truly loud a Thermal Classic really is).

If you're looking for something quite you may want to consider a Apexi WS. That's about the quietest aftermarket exhaust from the talk around here. Also, if you can find an RS*R system they are spoken very highly of. I like my Thermal a lot, but there are some quieter exhausts (such as the WS) and some others that are also well liked (like the RS*R). The Thermal is also a nice investment, but I wanted to share some other options that you might want to consider. The look is different for each too, if that makes a difference to you.
