There are birds in my engine!!!!

Now that i've gotten your attention, here's the deal. i've had my 94 prelude SI for about 8 months now. i love the thing to death. I have always had this problem, but now it's getting so bad i can't stand it anymore. Sometimes (usually when it's wet and raining out) when i start my engine it makes one of those high pitched "OH MY EFFING GOD" squealing noises. THEN, it will go away. When the car is idling, it will chirp.... repeatedly as if there are birds in my engine. often times, when i rev the engine, it will do the chirping noise fast and sometimes will KEEP chirping until i rev it more and get it to cut out the chirping when it revs down to idle. I do not think it is a belt, because if i'm standing in front of the car, it comes from the passenger side of the car.my belts, are on the driver side and the sound is not coming from there. anyone have any idea what this could be? i'm thinking it may possibly be the throttle body but i was hoping i could get some input, anyone know?

loose engine mount? my first guess would be the belts. it won't hurt to check the belts. chances are it's something loose

if you get a sound clip that would help u and us lots but just to be shure check how tight ur belts are because i had the same exact problem with mine. also try to turn your car on and let it idle then put the ac on and see if it gets worse

alright, so i got a video of the squealing on start. which, sounds like a belt. however i couldn't get the damn car to do it's chirping sound. haha. just imagine birds chirping over and over and over and over again in the car on idle. but this happens on and off. my internet is acting up, and i can't upload the video. but again, it's just a high pitch squealing that sounds like a belt, i can't get the chirping noise. THAT is the noise that sounds like it's something other than the belts, but i dunno yet. i'm going to change the belts first, then see if that fixes everything, i'll also grab a video clip of the bird sound. i'll upload it as soon as i can.

I agree that its just your alt or pwr steering belt that is loose. When they go loose, the pulley or belt spinns faster than each other and will cause that loud high pitch screech.

I admit that it is annoyying and embarrassing sitting at a red light listening to it if it does continue on. lol

Don't bother with the sound clip, just tighten your belts and it will stop. It is the belt on the alternator slipping.

Stop being a dick and make a proper title next time. All threads get archived and god forbid there be some useful information in here, it will make searching for other users in the future a pain in the ass.

i wasn't trying to be a dick when i titled it. whenever it's doing the chirpping noise (which sounds nothing like the squealing) my friends constantly say and i quote "dude, i think there are birds in your engine". i didn't know what else to name the title except that. if anything is really different about my case for some reason, i'll make another post with a better title for archiving, or just try and rename this post... which i doubt i can do. haha.

Also, I used to just have people work on my old car because i could care less about it. it was a 4 door accord and so i only did stuff that i knew would really save me money by doing myself. so how do i tension the belts so they aren't too tight, or too loose? thanks.

my old 4th gen used to make funny noises. It sounded like the bumper was rubbing against something when it was at idle and it would make a squeeky chirp sound. that could be it...make sure the belts arent worn out.

go to hondahookup.com, sign up, sign in and download the honda manual

I just want to thank everyone who's posting and trying to help. it doesn't seem that the chirping and the squealing are the same problem. the squealing seems to be the belt which i may have fixed now. so i got the video up of the weird chirping noise. again this noise is not, i repeat NOT coming from the belts. (and it's annoying the hell out of me) haha. in the video, i got it to do it when it does it as i rev the engine, however, it will often times do it on idle, but i got it to do it in this video, so i put it up. i'm afraid it might be coming from the throttle body or maybe the trans (it's automatic) so let me know what any of you think it could be. here's the link, thanks. YouTube - birds in my engine? i think not.

try lubing your pulleys and make sure no belts are rubbing against anything. also the belts might need belt dressing.
