temperature control problem anybody??

Okay has anyone else had this problem, on a stock tempature lever, you know where you can slide it one way or the other cold or hot, well my lever is stuck in the cold position, and when I try to move it over it's like someting is stopping it, and it springs back, it feels like if I force it then something behind it will brake. Any Ideas??

The cable thats hooked to it could have came undone. To access it you'll have to remove the radio and look under the heater control.

If the cable came undone, there wouldn't be any pressure on it would there? I'ts almost like the cable is caught on something, if you try to move it over it springs back. The thing is I don't see how that could of happened I never had that part out before.

You know what? Mine did that exact same thing over the summer. Except I was trying to see if I can somehow get it to stay, I ended up hearing a snap, and now I think the cable broke cause it slides back and forth and doesn't change the temperature. I'm going to have to access that cable too soon, cause it's getting cold out.

if you do that soon , take pics or something or pm, me and we can compare notes. that is what excatly it feels like though, if I go to far it feels like it's going to break.

I wonder if I messed something up during my swap, that affected that????

I know what you mean though the tempature is seriously dropping over hear, I know it can't be as cold as N.Y but it's cold enough for me, to want my heater on.

Well dude, depending on what goes wrong .. sounds like you could be into a JDM CC mod ...

I had mine apart and the best way to troubleshoot it, IMO, is to pull the center console & stereo and pull out the heater control unit ... unhook the temp cable and try and push it up and down inside the cable (you'll know what I mean, a wire slides in and out of the cabling) if it moves free then you have a problem in the heater control, just take it apart and move it back n forth til it works .... if it wont move, i say somethin in your heaterbox is blocking it and thats plenty of fun to get to ..

Its very possible something has fallen down onto something blocking it too but if it happen to me i'd jam it in hot for the winter and do digial climate control if theres somethin wrong with the actual heater box.

possibly a pinched control cable on passenger side floor board? I haven't checked it out yet.

Sorry for bringing this back but My temp doest change when I try to adjust the temp. The unit moves freely so I looked under the dash to see what was wrong and the other cable going through the firewall was falling a part and wasnt connected to the white thing. I tried to move this cable by hand but it doesnt move. Can anyone tell me where in the engine bay this cable connects to? How hard is it to change this cable? And are there any instructions for this? If anyone can send me a few pages from the hemls to get this done that would be great!

It goes through the engine bay and ends up near the firewall on a valve on a hose... You might have to remove your intake to be able to see it. Its around the middle / passenger side of the firewall

Hey, digging through the archives... I have this exact issue on my fourth gen. Had the dash apart, and the cable and linkages move freely. Is the heater control valve under the hood? I did not have enough time to poke around, I'm thinking that thing is bound up.

Anyone fix this? How much of a pain was it to get to the valve?

you guys are nuts, the cable goes down to just above the center console where the air box is ... there is nothing going through the firewall to adjust the temperature.

The cable goes from under the CC unit attached to the sliding arm (for a photo look in the 4gen FAQ for failing heater control) and then it goes down to the pass. side of the center console to the airbox, which is attached to the firewall .. without the center console attached, you can easily access where the cable attaches to the slider... theres a bracket, I think its white, and you can see where the cable goes on .. take off the center console part that goes around the shifter and get on the pass. side and look for it ...

at least you will be able to manually adjust the temperature as a workaround for winter until you have time to fix it right.

again, the cable does NOT go through the firewall.

Tried all that, it snaps back to cold. I'll check the FAQ, sorry, I'm not used to a forum being this organized, I had no clue this was in there.

there IS a cable the goes through the firewall. I dont know if it adjust the temperature directly, but the heater control cable goes to a lever behind the center console, then that lever moves another pulley which pulls the cable that goes through the firewall. I know this because i inspected it when i had my engine out. correct me if im wrong, but i definetly know there IS a cable, whether is adjusts the heat directly, idk

Repair cost at Honda dealership for this problem

New post to an old thread
I had the same issue and found it to be the cable that leads from a lever under the left side of the glove box into the engine compartment. I believe it became rusted from storing the car through the winters. My other cable that leads from the dash unit to the lever was stripped, but I switched it around and that seems to work well. Called my local Honda dealership and it runs $128 labor and $9 for the cable in case anyone has this same issue arise.
For 5th gen ludes Hopefully not......
