Temp and Fuel Gauge Not Working

Can somebody shed some light on why my gauges do not light up? I really need to resolve this ASAP and can't seem to find anybody that's had this problem. I've checked the fuses and there doesn't appear to be one for those gauges alone. Do I have to tear the freaking dash appart??

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Andy

when i bought my lude they weren't working either.

I had to buy one off of the guys on the forums. taking apart that part of the dash isn't very difficult--- a few screws...

once i got it apart i saw that one of the pieces on the circuit board had burned up.

The swap from the one i bought on here from a parted prelude, onto my car was a sinch though. think i got it for about $50

Thanks for your help! I finally got to the gauges and it appears the culprit are the three fried contacts on the right hand side. It's kind of hard to see but they should look like the ones on the left hand side. Everything else on the board appears to look okay. Now...to find a replacement.

You should replace it now before it burns out, mine did the same thing and then eventually gave out. The both of you with gauges that are already burnt out there's no way to fix it, you're gonna have to replace the entire instrument panel. I'm sure there's a 4th gen part out thread or two going on in the classifieds, go hop on them before they're gone.

Yeah, my gauge also took a dump a few months a while when I was driving back from class. It started to fry and I had smoke coming out from my dash, almost **** my pants thinking my car was catching on fire but then it stopped. ended up replacing it for around $45 shipped and 10mins of labor, very easy.

Yeah, exactly how mine went when I was driving to work, I thought the car was on fire. It gave me a reason to get EL gauges though while I had it all taken apart.

My gauge just went out a few days ago. Can anyone tell me where to find a new gauge for the $50 that you all got yours for?

eBay or look around in the classifieds for someone selling one or in a 4th gen part out thread.

Hi Guys, I'm having the same sort of problem with my '92 Prelude fuel and temp gauges which you've written about. The guages light is starting to flicker on and off, sometimes it stays on for a while then it turns off.

Can you please advise on how to access this electronic board, what parts of the dash do I pull apart, how and where do I start?

I think the Heat Marks are normal. Fuel Sending unit was my culprit !

Solution!

This is my first post, but I wanted to let everyone know about the solution that I found for my fuel and temp gauges. I used Circuit Board Medics to rebuild mine, and they were awesome to deal with. Here's a link to the service for the fuel and temp gauges:

^Very good info, wish I still had my old one that burnt up so that it could be sent out.

From what I understand those guys actually replace the defective parts with new upgraded parts that will not do the same thing again, not like this is a common problem that would ever happen again or anything.
