TDC Arrows dont align

I have been having some problems with my car. I think it is misfiring, but im probably wrong. It sounds like an exahust leak coming from the top of my exhaust manifold, but i cannot feel any leak or hear it with a hose. The car has constant hesitation sometimes it is worse than others.

Last time I did a valve adjustment I noticed that when cylinder 1 was at TDC that one arrow was pointing straight up, but the other was off by of 15 degrees. How do i correct this?

Thanks

You will have to loosen the timing belt and reinstall it over the cam gears.

Sounds Simple enough.. Couple Questions:

1.)Will the gears/shafts rotate by hand once the belt is loosened?

2.)Do i need to install some type of "key" to keep the gears from rotating while re-installing the belt?

You could rotate the cam gears by hand. Or what I do is just rotate it with either a boxed end wrench or turn it using a socket via the nut on the cam gear.

Its going to be kinda hard to slip on the belt and keep all pulleys at TDC. But on 4th gen ludes the cams have a small hole right on top in which you could stick a 5mm rod to keep it from turning. I suggest you do this.

email me if you have further questions: arax@mail.com
