Synthetic oil spilled on timing belt...Dangerous??? - Honda Prelude Forum

I pulled my hood this morining and noticed some oil spilt in my timing belt area. it seems to have come from my dipstick port. I immdiately used a strong detergent in water to clean it up as best as I could, now I dont see any trace of oil left on it . Question... is full synthetic oil as dangerous as petrolium oil on rubber. Should I change the belt??

yes brake clean it right away

belt might slip because of the oil. Be careful of the brake cleaner you use. Some brake cleaner might eat through your belt. Your safest bet is to replace your belt and clean the area.

using a strong detergent wasnt a good idea either, your gonna have weakened the belt a little there in that spot..i hope it holds up for you though...and i assume he knows where his timing belt is his car is turboed and hes probably got the timing area cut out
